POSITION SUMMARY: Republic Services, a growing Fortune 300 company and leading environmental services provider, is seeking an accomplished external communications professional to develop short- and long-term communications strategies to build the Republic Services brand and corporate reputation externally. This professional will lead all media relations, PR events, corporate publications and external company messaging/talking points related to proactive and reactive communications needs. This person directs a team of professionals responsible for the Company newsroom, blog, social media and more.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develops and executes a strategic external communications plan, helping distinguish Republic in the marketplace and aggressively tell the Company's sustainability narrative. Promotes and enhances Republic Services' leadership in the environmental services industry. Secures and supports executive media engagements, speaking opportunities and related external activity.
- Creates and implements national proactive and reactive media relations plans as needed to advance or protect the brand. Creates and drives influencer and social media programs.
- Effectively manages outside agencies to achieve these goals.
- Media trains leaders throughout the company and provides proactive and reactive messaging and talking points as needed.
- Develops key messages for multi-channel/multi-media (digital publicity, releases, executive QAs, white papers, etc.) that succinctly differentiates the brand/Company.
- Effectively manages news-related social media efforts for the Company, working in collaboration with Marketing and Digital teams.
- Partners closely and collaboratively with key departments to understand and then externally promote important Company programs and initiatives.
- Closely collaborates with the Director, Internal Communications to ensure coordinated and consistent messaging across all communications channels.
- Closely collaborates with Director, Charitable Giving, to amplify national and local giving and volunteering efforts in media.
- Serve as a key member of critical response/crisis team.
- Creates engaging and differentiated PR events to support new company assets or initiatives
- Serves as a spokesperson, as appropriate.
- This position may require travel up to 10% of the time.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned or apparent.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience expanding earned, shared, and owned media and driving social plan. Experience aligning messaging among various company stakeholders.
- Strong media relations experience with the ability to create national and local media campaigns that produce publicity and business impact.
- Experience serving as a media spokesperson and effectively preparing leaders for interviews.
- Experience influencing and partnering with external audiences, such as communities, trade associations, environmental groups, government agencies and not-for-profit organizations.
- Strong background in issues management, identifying proactive and reactive communications needs and articulating a position/driving consensus among company leaders.
- Experience ideating, writing and implementing through cross-functional collaboration company publications, such as Summary Annual Report and Sustainability Report.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including experience ghostwriting for executives and giving presentations to large audiences.
- Work with internal marketing partners to send clear brand messaging across all marketing and communications channels.
- Proven ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively within an organization, across business units, functional departments, geographies and disciplines.
- Experience successfully managing direct reports.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 10 years of progressive corporate communications leadership experience, national PR agency experience, reporting experience or a combination thereof.
