Job Description

Medica's Director of Finance has overall responsibility and oversight for financial analysis and reporting, health cost and the accurate accounting and financial analysis for the segment. In addition, this position has responsibility to drive effective and efficient management of the segment by working cross-departmentally with Operations, IT, HealthCare Economics, Corporate Finance and other areas to ensure segment objectives are met and achieved within budget targets. As a key member of the segment leadership team, this person will provide leadership for strategic planning, product pricing, and product financial performance, as well as risk management strategies and capital investments. This position will work with Network, Provider Finance and Corporate Actuarial to establish pricing strategies. This position will be accountable for forecasting future financial performance, keeping abreast of ever-changing regulatory issues, medical trend, and influencing cost-saving initiatives.

This person has a strong understanding of managed care, the ability to influence internal stakeholders, and the ability to effectively navigate a large health care organization. The position will lead development of critical data analytics to inform and guide decision-making for the segment. This position will work closely with Finance, Health Management, Sales & Marketing, Operations, Information Technology and Network Management.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Preparation of forecasts/budgets
  • Monthly profit & loss analysis and reporting
  • Administrative expense budgeting and reporting
  • Trend and healthcare cost analysis
  • Pro-forma development to support business cases
  • Involvement in various cross-functional committees dealing with claim costs, operational issues or other related topics

Ideal candidates have a passion for healthcare and product support, building trusted and collaborative relationships across the organization, and serving as a go-to leader for data analysis and consulting.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or MBA in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related required
  • 10+ years related experience required

Skills and Abilities:

  • Willingness and interest in people leadership required
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel
  • Knowledge of health plan and health care delivery marketplace required
  • Experience in financial analysis and reporting in health care, insurance, managed care, public utilities, telecom or financial services
  • Knowledge of applicable state and federal laws, particularly new laws related to health care reform preferred
  • Experience working in fast paced environment
  • Experience working with multiple projects simultaneously
  • Technical skills used to manipulate financial and claims data
  • Financial reporting, development of business plans and forecasting
  • Ability to perform deep dive analysis and the ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally to audiences at all levels within the organization and with varying levels of understanding
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to proactively identify and drive initiatives
  • A solution oriented problem solver
  • Strong project management skills

HUB: Requires an employee to occasionally come onsite to a designated office for applicable heads-up work. Frequency is determined by business need as decided by leadership.
