Director, Finance Analytics
Job Description
I. Job Summary
As a part of the centralized Finance Support Center this position has the responsibility and oversight of the design, implementation and maintenance of the Finance data science and analytics team. This role is responsible for reactive and proactive reporting/dashboarding, data science efforts, and current and predictive analytics. In addition, this role is responsible for overall Finance data governance, maintaining a detailed and thorough data dictionary.
To be successful in this role, individual must be able to enable and acquire data information, assess key metrics, insights, and learnings, and translate into consumable forms. The right person will join and help establish a process and regular cadence of reporting across Finance organization. It will also be a top priority to mentor and help develop analytics for the team.
II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.
- Manage, develop, and integrate data analytics assets / solutions to support the mission, vision strategies, objectives, and goals of WM
- Organize and assemble labor, technology, processes, and financial resources to address the current and future analytics needs of the business
- Utilize technology and analytic tools to develop and evaluate enterprise-wide Financial revenue and cost performance, trends, and correlated drivers and maintain a portfolio of models to support those insights.
- Develops, owns and optimizes existing Finance reports (i.e. Scorecards, Functional Dashboards, etc.) to drive meaningful business results.
- Builds solid relationships with all internal partners that impact Finance reporting (i.e. People; Digital; Legal; Finance; Operations, etc.)
- Perform analysis that span business units and functions (e.g., SG&A, Vendor Spend)
- Present output of efforts, often in a highly visual way to facilitate data-driven decisions and action plan
- Own data governance, processes, and standardization required for execution of analytics from data gathering to output
- Provides leadership support to the Finance functions and line of business leaders in the area of Finance metrics, reporting and advanced and predictive analytics
- Develops and leads a team of Analysts, Sr. Analysts to deliver on Finance and business requirements and objectives
- Provides expert level consulting to identify and support Finance and business reporting and data requirements
- Initiates and prioritizes reporting tools and resources
- Work closely with business owners and subject matter experts to develop new analytics
- Responsible for driving all data analytics including performance and reporting, mapping, and supporting teams with analytics assessments of user experience and optimization opportunities
- Manage analytic project prioritization based on business needs. Maintain and prioritize a list of enhancements requested for all measurement technology
- Responsible for presenting analysis and test results and resulting recommendations to peers and senior management
- Leverage data to assist in defining group enhancement requirements and be able to present a compelling business case for securing those investments
- Work with stakeholders to continue adding to and refining reporting suite
- Experience working with internal Technology function to create and support data architectures
- Experience managing teams of data scientists and data analyst
- Strong knowledge of end-to-end data lifecycles across traditional data warehouses (Azure), relational databases (Snowflake), business intelligence reporting (Power BI), and big data analytics
- Project execution skills with a proven track record of developing and implementing critical initiatives to drive growth
III. Supervisory Responsibilities
- Provides formal supervision to direct reports.
- Recommends staff recruitment, selection, promotion, advancement, corrective action and termination.
- Conducts performance appraisal and other performance discussions with individual employees.
- Plans and monitors appropriate staffing levels and utilization of labor, including overtime. Prepares and delivers performance appraisal for staff.
- Mentors and coaches team members to further develop competencies.
- Leads by example and models behaviors that are consistent with the company's values.
IV. Qualifications
The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.
A. Education and Experience
Education: Bachelor's degree (accredited) in business, computer science, statistics or related discipline, or in lieu of degree, High School Diploma or GED (accredited) and 4 years of relevant experience.
Experience: Ten years of related experience (in addition to education requirement)

- Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret the most complex business documents.
- Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive issues.
- Ability to write reports, manuals, speeches and articles using distinctive style.
- Ability to make effective and persuasive presentations on complex topics to employees, clients, top management and/or public groups.
- Ability to motivate and negotiate effectively with key employees, top management, and client groups to take desired action.
- Requires in-depth knowledge of financial terms and principles. Reviews complex financial/business analysis and reports.
- Ability to analyze the most complex business/financial data and develop innovative solutions. Approves and oversees departmental budget.
- Ability to solve advanced problems and deal with a variety of options in complex situations. Draws upon the analysis of others and makes recommendations that have a direct impact on the company.
- Experience managing, mentoring and developing talent and leading analytics functions.
- Finance/ERP systems experience with Oracle based products. Strong Microsoft product experience (Access, Excel, SharePoint, PowerPoint).
- Experience with analytics tools such as SQL, PowerBI, Python, SAS etc. Strong quantitative and analytical skills.
- Serve as primary liaison with Digital on architecture, data, technology and tools
- Ability to communicate complex statistical concepts and outputs to non-experts in both a written and verbal manner
- Demonstrated ability to build complex statistical models.

- This position does not require to be physically present in Houston, TX however infrequent travel to Houston might be required to complete the goals.
- Required to use motor coordination with finger dexterity (such as keyboarding, machine operation, etc) most of the workday;
- Required to exert physical effort in handling objects less than 30 pounds rarely;
- Required to be exposed to physical occupational risks (such as cuts, burns, exposure to toxic chemicals, etc) rarely;
- Required to be exposed to physical environment which involves dirt, odors, noise, weather extremes or similar elements rarely;
- Normal setting for this job is: office setting.
