Job Summary
The Director, Finance Operations will serve as a strategic leader for the implementation and execution of Finance initiatives and projects. This role will serve as a subject matter expert (SME) and lead a team of SME’s in various projects to ensure a well-designed, smooth flow of quality data; the elimination of manual and unnecessary processes; and the achievement of the target future state operating model.
This position will report to the VP, Finance Chief Operations Officer and will work closely with members of Finance and Information Technology.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Identify and drive opportunities for continuous improvement and minimizing risk within the Finance operating model
- Manage a team of Finance subject matter experts for successful implementation and execution of Finance initiatives and projects.
- Analyze complex issues and partner across functional areas to recommend thoughtful solutions
- Serve as subject matter expert for accounting standards and methodology; financial reporting requirements; and/or finance department data and processes
- Lead information sharing sessions to identify process enhancements, automation and other opportunities to derive efficiencies and implement best practices
- Assist in optimizing the financial close and reporting processes, including enhancements to internal controls, automation of manual processes, development of comprehensive metrics and reporting package
- Advise in the design of the future state operating model of the Finance department after consulting with all relevant stakeholders
- Assess the benefits and costs associated with identified Finance department transformation initiatives
- Collaborate with Finance project management to ensure project governance, internal controls, etc. are appropriately adhered to during execution
- Communicate the project status, risks and issues identified to key stakeholders
Experience and Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- 8+ years working in a professional level accounting position with increasing levels of responsibility
- CPA or MBA, preferred
- Proven leadership skills
- Significant experience within the life/annuity/insurance or financial services industry
- Knowledge of various SDLC methodologies (Waterfall, RAD, Agile, etc.), preferred

- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Highly motivated, self-starter & team player with a high energy level and willingness to take on responsibility
- Ability to manage multiple, concurrent projects of varying sizes and complexities
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to manage effectively across all levels of the organization
- Ability to work in a fast-pace environment and handle multiple projects and assignments under tight deadlines
- Organized and capable of providing leadership in a structured environment while requiring minimal day-to-day guidance
- Ability to translate large amounts of data into useful information and actionable items
- Proficient in all MS Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel and Power Point
Other Requirements
- Perform other functions, duties and projects as assigned
- Regular and punctual attendance
- Some travel may be required (less than 10%)
