Job Description

The Role

As part of our continued growth, we’re looking for an experienced Finance leader to join our Financial Control and Accounting function, based in our London office. Your work will be instrumental in building our financial infrastructure systems and tools to deliver financial information in an automated, scalable and well controlled manner.

As the leader of Finance Platform, you’ll partner with our Product and Engineering teams on our big rock initiatives such as building our proprietary Finance platform and infrastructure capabilities. You’ll collaborate across the sub-disciplines within Financial Control and Accounting (including operational teams) to ensure that any new products, capabilities and initiatives meet finance data, operations, system integration, financial reporting, audit and control requirements. 

This will be a hands-on role and is an excellent opportunity for a transformational Finance leader to step into a FinTech and take a hands-on role in building a strong technological foundation for financial operations and reporting within Checkout. 

How you’ll make an impact

• Drive the execution of the Financial Infrastructure roadmap, focussing on building scalable and automated financial systems and tools. 

• Build a deep understanding of current state of Accounting processes and identify future state solutions to be prioritised and implemented

• Partner with Product and Engineering teams to clearly articulate Finance requirements, gaps and inefficiencies through discovery discussions

• Define and document future state requirements alongside product and ensure alignment with accounting policies and standard methodologies on controls 

• Build and manage a team to be SME’s within their areas as the Finance lead of workstreams

• Active involvement during development phase to provide feedback and iterate in a fast and agile manner 

• Oversee the test and adoption of new system implementation and ensure impact to BAU operations are adequately understood and communicated to partners 

• Provide clarity to key partners and maintain close communication to ensure alignment on decisions and the status of the roadmap

• Maintain adequate documentation on key requirements and decision making on risks, controls and trade off decisions made

• Where conflicting priorities are presented, undertake a risk based impact assessment and apply clear exception acceptance criteria

Qualifications

What we’re looking for 

Successful candidates will bring senior level experience within an organisation with complex products and features, ideally within traditional finance/banking or payments/fintech. They should be comfortable bringing their vision to the table, as well as being hands-on and operational where needed. As an inspiring leader, you'll be leading through others and therefore the ability to influence cross-functional teams and senior leaders is a must. 

• Professional finance qualification (ACA or equivalent) with significant years post-qualification experience in Finance or Accounting roles, with specific experience in Finance Systems transformation 

• Proven track record of leading complex cross-functional technology transformation and implementation projects.

• Experience collaborating with Product and Engineering teams

• Experience working in complex, face paced agile transformation projects ideally within a listed environment of a global financial services or payments/fintech organisation.

• Deep knowledge and expertise on financial accounting, reporting, reconciliations and controls

• Knowledge of ERP systems and their integration with GL systems

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities

• Proven track record dealing with multiple stakeholders, employing varying engagement and communication styles. 

• You’re not afraid to roll up your sleeves and take responsibility to do whatever needs doing to solve problems.

Additional Information

Hybrid Working Model: 

All of our offices globally are onsite 3 times per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday). We’ve worked towards enabling teams to work collaboratively in the same space, while also being able to partner with colleagues globally.
