The Communications Technologies and Engineering Division (CTED) helps our customers solve the hardest problems in Satellite Communications, Signal Intelligence (SIGINT) and signal processing, and Position, Navigation and Timing (PNT). The organization provides solutions broadly covering architectures, policies, system design, performance, and development of cutting-edge prototypes in our laboratories. The division interacts with all major space customers to address their needs from terrestrial networks, ground stations and wireless systems to spacecraft, with a strong focus on robust and resilient communications.
We are seeking a highly motivated Director to lead the Digital Electronics and Electromagnetics Department (DEED). The DEED department primarily supports the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), Civil/Commercial work, and other US government customers. DEED aids in developing and acquiring innovative systems in the areas of communications, signal interception and processing, covert RF communications, wideband software-defined signal processing, and electronic warfare (EW).
We are experts in the technology areas of electromagnetics, antennas, RF and microwave electronics, and digital processing platforms. We perform modeling and simulation work and operate several laboratories that engage in prototyping, demonstrations, and field-testing work. These laboratory facilities have recently expanded to support a recent strategic thrust in the area of CubeSat through the establishment of the Payload Characterization and Environments (PACE) Lab. What You'll Be Doing
- The chosen candidate will engage with staff, management, and customers to lead and manage the department
- Work with management to establish the organization's objectives, structure, staff, and resources and participate in budget planning and allocation of resources
- Hire workforce to meet customer demands and organizational objectives and participate in recruiting activities such as visiting universities and attending conferences
- Implement corporate policies and direct organization's security processes, compliance, and safety awareness
- Report organization's activities, progress, and achievements through written and oral reports to management, staff, and customers
- Promote and market the organization's capabilities to customers. Engage with customers and higher management in identifying areas to support and develop statements of work and statements of expectations
- Conduct staff performance reviews and recommend performance improvement, career development, and salary/promotion actions
- Ensure the technical quality of deliverables (reports, software, services, etc.) to customers and steward the knowledge management of work performed in the department
- Seek and identify opportunities for new business and plan and manage department research activities
- Assign and coordinate work activities with the organization along with participating in technical reviews and assessments
What You Need to be Successful
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in a STEM field or other area relevant to the organization's core expertise including Antennas, RF/Analog Electronics, Digital Signal Processing and hardware implementation and Wireless Communications
- Typically, 12-years of applicable professional experience with 4+ years of experience in a supervisory role is required
- Experience in people management skills, including recruiting, hiring, mentoring, staff development, and administering performance reviews
- Strong project management skills with demonstrated experience guiding prototyping or deliverable hardware developments
- Experience managing laboratory infrastructure and associated responsibilities such as safety, metrology, and maintenance
- Strong leadership skills and proven ability to lead staff covering a range of Electrical Engineering disciplines
- Recognized ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of corporate staff, support organizations, customers, and contractors
- Travel will be up to 10% of the time
- MUSTcurrently possess an active and current TS/SCI security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. Government for consideration.
How You Can Stand Out
It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:
- Advanced Degrees in a STEM field or equivalent is highly desirable
- 16+ years of applicable professional experience with 8+ years of experience in an organizational supervisory role is preferred
- Broad range of experience in the technical areas of department responsibility, including RF/antenna design, software defined radios (SDRs), digital signal processing and digital hardware development, and overhead signal collection
- Experience recruiting and hiring high quality talent in highly competitive fields such as SDRs, field programmable gate array (FPGA), and digital signal processing
- Track record of successfully managing research, overhead, and laboratory capital budgets
- Understanding of IC missions and programs
- Established relationships with ETG and Program Offices
