Description

Responsible for leading a team of category sourcing managers to accomplish organizational objectives and sourcing strategies for the North America manufacturing locations. This team will drive and implement category strategies across the global organization. They will develop and maintain a qualified supply base, while understanding technology trends and market influences. Will also maintain the overall business ownership of specific categories to include managing, coordinating, and monitoring communications with suppliers and employees.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develops strategic supplier partner relationships.
  • Experience with hedging or placing raw materials on contract such as copper and steel.
  • As part of the focus on category management this individual will create and maintain category playbooks detailing long-term strategies reducing overall risk while creating opportunities for cost reduction.
  • Responsible for implementation of a cost tracking system as part of a cost control/improvement effort.
  • Familiar with 7steps or other strategic sourcing methodologies.
  • Reviews historical pricing to ensure past price increases were fair and aligned with market conditions.
  • Understands important factors relevant to assigned categories, including product knowledge, applications/usage, processing knowledge, cost structure, global market, supplier capabilities, supplier market share, supplier benchmarking, etc.
  • Utilizes contract negotiation, process changes, and implementation of sustainable cost controls, including collaboration with finance, to validate the impact of proposed projects and drive stakeholder approval.
  • Drafts, negotiates, and executes long-term agreements and/or full-service supplier contracts, where appropriate, for assigned categories; gains feedback and buy-in from appropriate departments such as legal, engineering, marketing, operations, quality, and from senior leadership.
  • Uses strategic sourcing tools to proactively conduct spend analysis and monitor supplier performance.
  • Communicates overall supplier performance, trends in technologies and market conditions by category.
  • Leads highly strategic, global, cross-functional sourcing teams and champions the strategic sourcing process with the organization.
  • Manages, develops, and implements strategies and goals with category managers that support department objectives for quality, cost, and supplier development.
  • Develops, designs, and implements the framework for sourcing.
  • Routinely presents proposals, recommendations, and results of category metrics to senior leadership.
  • Serves as a category information resource; this includes educating, coaching, and mentoring other employees in global sourcing and planning, manufacturing, marketing, and engineering.
  • Manages supply chain activities that meet the company's forecasted demand and strategic initiatives.
  • Determines suppliers that will provide the best quality at the best cost.
  • Defines and executes cost savings projects that meet global supply goals.
  • Makes supplier visits as required including international travel to manage business.
  • Assists in resolving any quality or technical product issues with suppliers.
  • Works with engineering to understand all technical product aspects.
  • Assists in communicating required quality standards to suppliers.
  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned.

  • Completes some moderately repetitive tasks.
  • Uses complex and noncomplex machines and equipment.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in business, management, or a related field (required).
  • Seven to ten years of experience in a related field (required).
  • Graduate degree in business or a related field (preferred).
