Job Description

What you will do:

The Global Strategy Director will work to develop and advance the strategic growth agenda for Clarios, collaborating with regional, functional, and parent-company leadership. Specifically, the Director is responsible for: analyzing and framing growth challenges and opportunities open to Clarios; structuring choices and solutions for decision-makers; leading the start-up approach for select initiatives; and collaborating broadly across the organization to measure progress, action and results.

How you will do it:

Enterprise Strategy Development:

  • The Strategy Director will be called upon to tackle discrete and critical strategic questions facing the enterprise, specific regions, or functions. As part of this work the Director can expect to operate individually, leading select teams, supporting select teams, and managing third-party consultants. The work will generally require:
  • Assessing and prioritizing key market, customer, competitive and technology dynamics impacting Clarios over mid to long term
  • Evaluating requirements and business models to establish critical success factors
  • Determining Clarios' positioning, gaps, and requirements against these factors
  • Developing actionable strategies and tactics to drive business plans
  • Framing the issues, framework and strategic response for Clarios leaders, parent-company representatives, and/or Board of Directors as appropriate
  • Establishing and leading the start-up approach
  • Creating appropriate mechanisms to track progress and impact

Integrated Business Planning:

  • The Strategy Director will be responsible for driving and shaping development of the 5-year business plan. This includes:
  • Convening a broad range of stakeholders to advance and improve the overall process, cadence and timeline
  • Drive the process in a proactive way that links business functional and regional units in a consistent and coordinated fashion
  • Raises the level of clarity, critical-thinking, consistency and strategic rigor across all dimensions of the process and through interactions with key stakeholders at regional and functional levels
  • Ensure logic and rigor in capital expenditure plans, financial returns, and executability
  • Ensure agility, flexibility and continuous improvement throughout the process
  • Synthesize and communicate the plan for senior leadership, Board of Directors, third-party investors and Clarios at large

Corporate Development & Portfolio Strategy:

  • Clarios is actively shaping its portfolio as it enters new spaces such as Li-Ion accelerating the use of M&A as a strategic tool. Working with the VP of Strategy, Corporate Development, and parent-company leadership, the Director may:
  • Identify portfolio moves for the enterprise
  • Assess specific targets, developing preliminary business cases and/or assessing analysis from regions of strategic fit and opportunity
  • Lead or support due diligence efforts
  • Support integration of successful transactions

What we look for:

  • Bachelors Degree in related field
  • MBA/MA preferred
  • The successful candidate will have 10 to 15 years of progressive experience in strategic planning, marketing, business development, new ventures, general management or financial planning.
  • The ideal candidate will have a significant portion their experience in automotive, battery or related industries.
  • International experience is desired.
  • A consulting background focused on strategic planning, business unit strategy development, corporate strategy development, and mergers and acquisitions is desired
  • Exposure to mergers, acquisitions, alliances, new ventures, international licensing and co-production agreements is desired.
  • Proven ability to constructively engage the senior management team in brainstorming and evaluating potential growth ideas, formally and informally.
  • Demonstrated success establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with senior customers, industry consultants and industrial representatives.
  • Experience working in both direct and matrix management environments.
  • Experience in optimizing core businesses while developing growth strategies.
  • Proven leadership ability and experience in promoting concepts and getting others to internalize their ideas.
  • This position requires an executive with a natural intellectual curiosity and outstanding analytical capacity and intuition to grasp the nuances of emerging and converging markets and technologies and their impact on Clarios
  • He/She/They will have a proven track record of success in a collaborative and participative management environment
  • He/She/They will be able to motivate, engage and energize the team.
  • He/She/They will be a team player in the fullest sense of the term.
  • Being assertive, inspiring, perceptive, decisive and results-oriented are critical to the success of the chosen candidate.
  • This individual will have an exceptionally strong presence, high professional and personal standards along with the ability to challenge the expectations of the Clarios business unit leaders to think "outside the box."
  • He/She/They will have excellent business sense / judgment and the ability to influence and facilitate activities globally.
  • The successful candidate will possess the ability to instill a sense of confidence and credibility with both internal/external constituencies.
  • They must lead innovation and creatively shape the Battery business by their strategic vision and actions.
