The Director, Global Systems Test and Innovation Engineering for Beckman Coulter Diagnostics is responsible for Developing Automation, IT, and other Technology to improve effectiveness and efficiency of Global Operations systems, processes, and tools, as well as developing Test Equipment for new products and testing product design through all stages of the production cycle. They will also lead the specification, sourcing, installation, and testing of large new equipment on manufacturing lines and ensure global standardization.

The role is expected to stay on top of external industry developments and best practices and develop a global roadmap to transform industry 4.0/5.0 technology and automation. They are also expected to work closely with R&D, Quality, and Manufacturing to develop on-time test equipment and testing for new products for manufacture to the specified QDC measures. The candidate is expected to leverage DBS tools, share best practices, and ensure a consistent approach globally where possible.

This individual will provide direct knowledge and success in execution of Industry 4.0/5.0 automation, IT, and processes for manufacturing. They will demonstrate global leadership to give vision, strategy, and direction, as well as driving daily process execution using lean tools. This position is part of the North American Manufacturing Operations group and may be located in Miami, FL or Chaska, MN. This role is considered hybrid. You will report to the Vice President of North American Manufacturing Operations and will lead a team of 16 people globally. In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Audit current operations processes and systems and develop a global roadmap for industry 4.0/5.0 process optimization, automation, and software improvements for BEC Dx supply chain & manufacturing.
  • Develop and execute automation and new manufacturing process technology to reduce costs / improve productivity
  • Assess and evaluate Innovation, Test and Equipment teams in terms of: (a) structure, resource, team work and skills (both team and individual capability) and (b) global processes and the leverage/maturity of DBS and make recommendations - including cross training/optimization of resources - for change.
  • Create structure, processes, and reporting cadence to develop a global Innovation, Test and Equipment organization
  • Key Metrics will be: Capacity (machine availability in time for growth), Quality (Defects Per Unit and First Pass Yield), Cost Savings, Productivity, Automation ROI, OEE, and efficiency for current products and Success of New Product Designs transfer into manufacturing

The essential requirements of the job include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Science or Engineering with 14+ years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with 12+ years of relevant experience
  • 12+ years of product development/engineering experience preferred
  • 4+ years managing people
  • Proven track record of global Engineering leadership and execution of automation and successful process optimization improvements in a global operations environment
  • Demonstrated strong analytical decision-making skills as well as innovative thought process ability. Can switch gears and move to hands-on and detail orientation to address immediate issues and major variances
  • Understand the drivers of financial performance and experience working closely with the finance team to monitor cost improvements
  • Prior experience in a DBS/Lean or Six sigma Culture and ability to drive sustainable results using Continuous Improvement tools

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

  • 8+ years of experience in Engineering Innovation / Industry 4.0 AND hands-on engineering for testing of new products in a Supply Chain or Manufacturing function or in med-tech; FDA/ISO or similar regulated industry
  • People developer, able to coach, give reinforcing and developmental feedback, has courage around people, and holds team accountable
  • Advanced degree such as an MBA (or Master/Ph.D. in a related discipline) is preferred
