The Director, People Systems and Services, serves as a collaborative thought-leader, providing strategic leadership, direction, and management of a multi-disciplinary division including HR Technology (HRIT) and the HR Employee Service Center (HRSC) reporting to the Vice President of People Experience and Strategy as part of the People, Brand, and Communications Sector. The Director will execute strategic priorities that continue to transform the way we work, leveraging our people systems, tools and business processes to deliver maximum value, quality data, and exceptional experiences for our people.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Oversees division operations, including achieving deliverables that support MITRE's vision, mission, and good growth strategy.
  • Represent the Workday HRIS/HR Service Center teams by clearly communicating solution options that enable informed decisions by stakeholders.
  • The Workday HRIS Director will direct a team of HRIS professionals and own the ongoing design, deployment, and maintenance of Workday HCM (Core HCM, Payroll, Compensation, Recruiting, WD Extend, etc.). You will collaborate with key business stakeholders and our HR organization to solve business problems through technology to enable MITRE to continue to evolve and optimize at scale. You will be responsible for providing strategic direction for the HRSC, Workday HCM platform and the Workday HRIS team.
  • Lead all aspect of the Human Resource Service Center (HRSC) in support of onboarding, operations, and maintenance of customer care with internal staff and stakeholders.
  • In partnership with leadership and key stakeholders, create and execute an innovative strategic roadmap that leverages Workday and other people systems and tools to continue to transform the way we work, ensure scalability of operations, and create exceptional experiences for our people.
  • Partners with internal and external peers and leaders across the people organization, Finance, and IT to develop and execute leading employee services practices and a high-quality delivery model to ensure operational efficiencies, consistency, compliance, and an exceptional people experience.
  • Collaborate closely with IT/Finance Systems/Payroll to lead Workday Releases and ensure alignment across the Workday platform.
  • Partner with IT Operations and Legal on the creation and maintenance of change management policies and procedures
  • Creates and maintains key metrics for measuring team performance and uses the metrics to inform decisions and recommendations for improving people data management and/or process changes. Accountable for instilling operational rigor across all areas of responsibility.
  • Works closely with division team and other systems leaders across the organization and outside vendors to troubleshoot service issues -ensuring day-to-day system support and operations are balanced with strategic projects and initiatives.
  • Manages relationships with vendors, and the development of training and documentation for system use and maintenance.
  • Ensures Workday tools support current and new MITRE and people focused strategic priorities by establishing regular Continuous Improvement cycles, providing visibility to key stakeholders across the enterprise.
  • Leads regular Workday reviews to monitor enhancements in pipeline, set expectations for future Workday releases, develop, and maintain roadmap(s) for large projects, and collect feedback and provide project updates.
  • Lead, develop, and coach diverse and high performing teams, fostering an inclusive, equitable, and dynamic work environment that provides career growth and development opportunities.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems Engineering, Information Technology, Human Resources or related field and minimum of 15 years' relevant work experience or equivalent combination of related education and experience
  • Must have at least 3-5 years of progressive management experience with experience in Human Capital Management (HCM) systems operations. Experience in Workday is highly regarded.
  • Experience working for a large organization with employees dispersed across multiple states and globally.
  • Experience integrating and managing a high-volume Employee Service Center.
  • An expert in HR systems operations with extensive experience providing consultation on complex issues to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Self-starter with entrepreneurial, "roll up your sleeves" spirit who can function as both a "working" senior leader who not only role models behaviors for team members, but also works closely alongside their teams to manage the launch of new systems and programs.
  • Exceptional organizational skills including the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with responsibility for managing multiple assignments and flexibility to pivot quickly reprioritizing work based on environmental needs.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills across all levels of an organization.
  • Must be highly motivated, proactive, flexible, coachable, and possess the ability to effectively scan environment for cues to guide decision making.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in or for federal government, federal government consulting/contracting and/or FFRDCs.
  • At least 10 years of previous experience managing people, projects, and programs with responsibility developing, delivering, and managing HR information systems and/or HR Service Centers.
  • Experience leading enterprise projects/project management experience.
  • Active security clearance not required, but ability to obtain clearance may be required.
