Director, Human Resources Business Partner - Boston
Job Description
Twist is seeking a Director, Human Resources Business Partner. This role will report to the Senior Vice President, Human Resources, and work in close partnership with our HR team. In this role, you will support our R&D and OPS leaders and their teams. We’re looking for somebody who can roll up their sleeves and execute on day-to-day people decisions while also being a strategic partner to our global commercial leaders.Â
What You’ll Be Doing
- Provides leadership in the areas of planning, development, implementation, administration, and budgeting for client group
- Provides advice and feedback regarding the design and rollout of programs.
- Drives the delivery of key HR programs and services, including compensation, recruitment, training, and development. Provides advice and feedback regarding the design and rollout.
- Advises VP(s), SVP(s), and other senior management on HR policy and program matters, making or recommending appropriate decisions, which may be significantly complex.
- Viewed as subject matter expert and maintains contacts with external sources to stay apprised of current trends and new legislative changes.
- Develops concepts, techniques, and standards for flawless execution of the delivery of various HR services including succession planning, talent acquisition, performance management, compensation planning, and leadership development.
- While not necessarily the subject matter expert in each HR specialty area, must be able to initiate discussions regarding organizational changes and to present each of the HR specialty functional areas (training, compensation, benefits, etc.) when working with management.
- Designs, develops, and implements communication strategies to introduce new processes and Company initiatives. Ensures effective communication strategies are in place within the organization and builds two-way communication channels.
- Identifies opportunities to expand and strengthen HRBP’s role in supporting the client’s organization.
- Analyzes business needs, defines the talent management strategy within the client group, and influences recruiting decisions.
- In partnership with Learning & Development, delivers and implements leadership development programs.
- Ensure alignment to and execution of established Twist-wide human resources policies, procedures, and initiatives
- Ensure compliance of all HR practices within area of responsibility and with legislative and regulatory requirements, standards and other known relevant policies and guidelines
- Triage and respond to employee relations issues (e.g., employee concerns or complaints, worker’s compensation cases)
- Serve as the go-to HR team member for the Operations and R&D departments, including management- and employee- questions and concerns
- Develop effective working relationships with COEs in support of delivering global HR delivery model

- Requires thorough knowledge and understanding of Human Resources legislation/employment law, principles, policies, and procedures.
- Must be able to develop solutions to a wide range of highly complex problems, which require an in-depth degree of ingenuity, creativity, and innovation.
- Ability to exercise judgment and independently determine and take appropriate action within defined HR policies and procedures.
- Team player with very strong ethical orientation
- Must have the ability to make recommendations to effectively resolve problems or issues, by using judgment that is in consistent with standards, practices, policies, procedures, regulation, or government law
- Strong aptitude for listening, collaborating, and problem-solving

Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to integrate different cultures and align processes and practices to a single global approach.
- Background in employment law and other government compliance regulations
- Master’s degree in Human Resources, Psychology, or related discipline
- Previous work experience in a non-HR role at some point during your career (i.e., you bring direct, applied business experience to your HR career)
