Job Description
The purpose of this position is to carry out the mission of the American Psychological Association - to advance the creation, communication, and application of psychological knowledge to benefit society and improve people's lives within the scope of the Leadership Development Institute (LDI)- in relation to increasing the number of racial/ethnic minority professionals in the field and enhancing our understanding of the life experiences of racial/ethnic minority and other underserved communities. This purpose is carried out through the Minority Fellowship Program (MFP) by providing leadership in the development, implementation, and maintenance of national training programs focusing on practice in these communities. This position is 100% funded by a grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration through August 30, 2025.
Education and Experience Required:
- Minimum educational requirement is a bachelor's degree in psychology or a related behavioral/social science field.
- Master's degree in psychology or a related behavioral/social science field is preferred.
- Five - eight years of professional program management experience required
- Must have experience managing multiple projects that range from moderate to highly complex efforts.
- Clinical experience in mental health and/or substance abuse services is preferred.
- Excellent oral/written communication skills.
- Demonstrated skill in adapting to, supporting, and facilitating change in the work environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to psychological science related to underserved populations.
- Proven experience in leadership and supervision.
- Experience with financial tracking and budget development/monitoring.
- Demonstrated interpersonal savvy and business acumen.
- Demonstrated collaborative and innovative approaches to decision-making and problem-solving.

Responsibilities:
Manage all administrative projects for IMFP clinical programs
- Manage all project planning, implementation, administration, meetings, coordination of advisory committees, and reporting.
- Hire, develop, and supervise staff, interns, consultants, and temporary personnel.
- Manage the business operations, including developing/monitoring budgets, creating/implementing marketing and communications strategies, and coordinating with the Grants and Contracts Office and other APA offices to ensure the accurate and timely production of deliverables.
- Collaborate closely with APA MFP Directors and staff in other SAMHSA MFP disciplines for programmatic meetings and projects.
- Investigate sources for external support and manage the application process for grants and contracts.
Manage all professional development and evaluation projects for clinical programs
- Organize and implement webinars, workshops, institutes, and other professional development opportunities for fellows.
- Ensure monitoring and tracking of current Interdisciplinary MFP (IMFP) fellows' progress and professional development relevant to MFP program goals and policy issues.
- Conduct ongoing evaluations of programs by identifying and reporting on proximal and distal outcomes and their influential inputs and processes.
Represent APA to members, outside organizations, and interested individuals
- Interact with senior staff in other professional organizations and represent the Head of LDI in their absence as related to IMFP.
- Develop relationships with APA members in boards, committees, divisions, and other affiliated organizations.
Other Duties as Assigned
- Assist other LDI colleagues and completed other duties as assigned.
