Job Description
We are currently looking for a Director, Internal Communications & Organizational Change Management. In this role, you will report directly to our Chief Communications Officer. You will play a pivotal role in helping Brightspeed enhance its communications tools, strengthen the conversation between leadership and staff, and move the organization through change successfully. You will be responsible for designing and executing the internal communications strategy for the organization, to include supporting internal communications for the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) as well as leading the creation and implementation of change management strategies to support the organization’s strategies and growth.
You will also work closely and regularly with Brightspeed’s leadership to help convey the vision, progress, and current situation for the organization in a consistent, compelling, and transparent way. You and your team will lead communications & change management efforts to support change initiatives at Brightspeed and ensure communications inform, educate, motivate, and engage employees.
You will have exceptional interpersonal skills, project management skills, and writing skills, with the ability to juggle multiple projects, work comfortably with leadership, and manage a small team.
As Director, Internal Communications & Organizational Change Management, your duties and responsibilities will include:
INTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS
- Develop and lead implementation of Brightspeed’s internal communications strategy and annual communications work plan to drive stakeholder engagement with and understanding of Brightspeed’s vision, business priorities, and operational objectives.
- Develop messages, content, channels, and materials to support internal communications strategy
- Work closely with senior leadership to understand communications challenges and needs, ensure cohesiveness/coherence of messages, and create supporting communication plans
- Ensure consistent communications/messaging across Brightspeed’s communications channels (intranet, Viva Engage, town halls, leadership meetings and events, etc.)
- Develop & maintain editorial calendars to drive internal communications in line with business priorities and external news flow
- Ensure message consistency, coherence, alignment, and relevance through all communications at all levels in the organization
- Create and strengthen two-way channels for leadership & employee dialogue
- Provide strategic input on all internal communications announcements, including organizational changes, firm-wide policies, corporate updates, crisis management, and others, to ensure messaging is aligned
- Lead a team focused on internal communications and change, providing guidance and clarity to drive alignment across their body of work
- Work with internal communications team to develop measurement tools to track effectiveness of communications and help drive behavioral and culture change, as well as contribute to alignment of business objectives
CHANGE MANAGEMENT
- Provide strategic change management counsel to Brightspeed leaders on internal change management initiatives affecting employees and operations
- Work with senior management at the outset of change programs to enable understanding and effective use of change tools to drive successful employee adoption and engagement and achieve business goals
- Create supporting communications materials (FAQs, talking points, etc.) to help align leadership messaging
- Work with key stakeholders throughout Brightspeed to understand change implications and communications needs, and ensure effective employee engagement
- Drive change management best practices
- Create messaging to support leaders and to engage employees
Qualifications
WHAT IT TAKES TO CATCH OUR EYE:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, change management or related field
- 10+ years of strategic communications and change management experience in a large, complex, organization
- Background in managing communications platform strategies and designs
- Familiarity with external communications and priorities
- Strong team player willing to go above and beyond defined roles and responsibilities, especially working across corporate communications and community impact team
- Demonstrated ability to design and execute ideas: plan, develop, communicate, benchmark, track, measure, etc.
- Demonstrated success in building internal business relationships at a senior level with a proven track record of success in internal communications
- Demonstrated ability to grow and develop team members
- Executive presence and strong management skills
- Willingness and ability to work independently, think creatively, and shift gears depending on changing priorities and deadlines of Brightspeed’s leadership team
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, research, writing and verbal communication skills
- Strong service and detail orientation
- Relationship-building skills to allow partnership development with internal constituents; proven internal client credibility; ability to influence
- Discretion, sense of humor, high energy and ability to manage stress and maintain a positive working environment for employees and internal clients
- Ability to travel, when needed
