Reporting to the Vice President, Global Marketing & Strategic Growth Areas, the Director, Marketing Communications & Operations will lead the marketing communications, content, and operations for the global BDB portfolio which includes Research Instruments, Research Reagents, Clinical Solutions, Informatics and Single Cell Multiomics. The incumbent will be accountable for tactical execution for downstream activities for $1.4B+ business unit. The role leads global marketing activities by leading the development and execution of strategy and tactics listed in the annual marketing plans to produce next generation market awareness activities, lead generation, customer engagement and ultimately sales growth. S/he will lead the strategy for content creation and communications based on voice of customer and category dynamics. S/he will partner with the e-business and digital marketing leader to build and execute the deliverables in the annual strategic review.

Our vision for Director, Marketing Communications & Operations at BD:

Reporting to the Vice President, Global Marketing & Strategic Growth Areas, they will lead the marketing communications, content, and operations for the global BDB portfolio which includes Research Instruments, Research Reagents, Clinical Solutions, Informatics and Single Cell Multiomics. The incumbent will be accountable for tactical execution for downstream activities for $1.4B+ business unit. The role leads global marketing activities by leading the development and execution of strategy and tactics listed in the annual marketing plans to produce next generation market awareness activities, lead generation, customer engagement and ultimately sales growth. They will lead the strategy for content creation and communications based on voice of customer and category dynamics. They will partner with the e-business and digital marketing leader to build and drive the results in the annual strategic review.

This role will be responsible for the marketing communications competency within the organization by acquiring, developing, and retaining talent with the capability to assume succession roles across BDB and/or other BD platforms/business units. The leader will have direct reporting responsibility for 5-6 marketers who handle the marketing content, communications & operations. The entire team will contain 12+ marketers.

The leader will collaborate closely with the marketing leaders from the platforms and regional marketing to craft value propositions and messaging. The role requires extensive collaboration with product marketers, medical affairs leaders, and scientific solution managers. In addition to the above, the leader may lead key strategic projects or initiatives outside the role's scope of responsibilities.

Key Success Metrics:

  • Lead and supervise brand strategy for BD Biosciences
  • Driving campaigns for multiple product portfolios
  • Leadership in building content for digital, social, website, email, and other channels
  • Strategy building for tradeshows and events
  • Marketing Analytics & return on investment for Marketing Communications Programs
  • Successful planning and roll-out of annual global marketing plans
  • Ensure the marketing collateral and content adhere to BD policies
  • Talent retention and succession plan build

Key Responsibilities:

To achieve the defined measures of success, lead the global downstream marketing team to implement the following key deliverables:

  • Orchestrate BDB's omni-channel vision, strategy, and execution; making valuable contributions and driving conversion across the lifecycle of key customer segments by building a strong industry-leading voice, solutions-based storytelling, high-impact creative, innovative channel execution, and concrete reporting.
  • Develop integrated and scalable next-generation experiences, communications strategies, promotional campaigns that support product launches and other key business initiatives while improving the customer experience
  • Lead and run the marketing communications, content, and operations teams with direct accountability for outcomes.
  • Co-Lead and develop the operations, performance and analytics framework and function, driving improvement and business growth through ongoing web, program and campaign performance tracking and reporting of useful insights to key partners
  • Be responsible for content creation for digital channels including BDB website and its accompanying landing pages, search, social media, endemic media, and email, creating and handling editorial calendars and content.
  • Establish standard processes in campaign development, positioning, and messaging.
  • Represent the marketing communications function for commercial excellence reviews at various stage gate of new product launch.
  • Lead the planning and execution of event-based programs from large-scale trade shows, vendor fairs, virtual symposiums, and webinars; delivering in-person and virtual events that meet defined objective on schedule and within budget.
  • Define strategy, program prioritization, and resource allocation for the global marketing communications team. Ensure continued focus on short-term business priorities and long-term innovation
  • Grow and develop an impactful marketing communications and operations team aligned with BD's leadership values, attracting, growing, and retaining excellent talent
  • Build and maintain a strong cross-functional partnership with regional strategic marketing, platform, global marketing, and corporate teams for successful execution of marketing strategies
  • Handle and oversee expense budgets and resources upwards of several million dollars.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent with at least 12+ years of commercial experience in marketing communications and operations. MBA preferred.
  • Experience in life science industry is a plus.
  • Prior experience in managing team of 10+ associates and developing/mentoring talent.
  • Minimum 7+ years of experience with brand, content, communications, tradeshows, and event management.
  • Experience in planning, executing, and measuring downstream marketing program and analytics.
  • Experience in successfully implementing large scale campaigns and downstream marketing programs working with external vendors.
  • Leadership experience in marketing transformation leading to revenue growth.
