Director, Newsroom Operations

What You'll Do:
- Responsible for ensuring that Politico's newsroom adheres to standards of operational excellence that allow us to produce world-class journalism and build a sustainable business.
- Manage the newsroom's annual budget, in partnership with the Global Editor in Chief, Executive Editor, Executive Director of Global Newsroom Strategy and SVP of Finance, that allocates resources to deliver the company's stated priorities and provide analyses to newsroom leadership and company leadership on a monthly/quarterly basis.
- Partner with HR and Legal on matters related to the collective bargaining agreement and lead the newsroom's administration of the collective bargaining agreement including regular manager training developed in partnership with HR and Legal team colleagues.
- Responsible for the operations and logistics leading up to and during all major external coverage events where POLITICO wants to send journalists. This includes conventions, debates, and inaugurations, as well managing the credentials process.
- Partner with HR, the Communications team and newsroom leadership on Politico's signature internal events, including town halls, Collaboration Days, Politico Days, retreats and awards events.
- Develop newsroom policies, in collaboration with HR and other key company teams, that align with our company policies. Drive rollouts around major operational initiatives including hybrid work and onboarding of new employees to the newsroom.
- In partnership with the newsroom leadership team, identify and bridge operational gaps to deliver the collaboration and connection required between the newsroom in the U.S. and Europe to operate as one transatlantic enterprise.
- Manage partnerships and subscriptions with third-party vendors including LexisNexis and PACER, as well as other national and local subscriptions.
- Work with finance and talent to set freelancer standards and contracts for the newsroom.
- Partner with newsroom leaders and executive assistants to maintain a schedule for the newsroom to cover vacation and holiday days as well as the calendar for internal and external events and deadlines.
- Own award planning and submission to support newsroom ambition.
What You'll Need:
- 7+ years of leadership experience in operations and managing budgets, ideally in a newsroom setting
- Experience with the administration of collective bargaining agreements
- Excellent organizational and project management skills; consistent attention to detail
- A strategic and creative approach to building and transforming processes and new workflows. Strong problem solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, with the capacity to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment and adhere to deadlines
- Experience working with large teams and collaborating across multiple teams, including the Finance Department
- Strong understanding of digital media, news production and multimedia content
- Commitment to journalistic integrity, ethics, and accuracy
