The Mission:
The Director of Accounting will be a hands-on strategic leader who will be responsible for managing our outsourced accounting firm and laying the foundation for transitioning the accounting function in-house. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in all aspects of accounting.
Core Responsibilities:
Accounting Operations
- Oversee and manage all aspects of the accounting function including financial reporting, AP, AR, revenue recognition, systems, and taxes
- Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting, including the preparation of monthly financial statements and other management reports
- Ensure compliance with all relevant accounting standards and regulations
- Coordinate and lead internal and external audits
Outsourced Accounting Management
- Act as the primary liaison between Typeface and the outsourced accounting firm
- Ensure the outsourced firm meets performance expectations and service level agreements
- Monitor and review the quality of work performed by the outsourced firm to ensure accuracy and compliance with Typeface policies
- Identify areas for process improvement
In-House Accounting Function Setup
- Develop and execute a strategic plan for transitioning the accounting function from an outsourced model to an in-house team
- Design and implement accounting policies, procedures, and controls to ensure compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements
- Recruit, train, and manage an internal accounting team
Collaboration and Communication
- Work closely with other departments to provide financial insights and support
- Collaborate with other Finance functions to ensure data accuracy and consistency as well as develop and implement financial management policies
Minimum Qualifications:
- BA/BS degree in finance, accounting or related field. Active CPA license highly preferred
- Minimum 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 4 years in a senior or managerial role
- Proven track record in an early-stage startup environment demonstrating the ability to build and scale accounting functions from the ground up
- Experience working with large accounting firms, including exposure to complex accounting issues
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP, internal controls/SOX and financial reporting requirements
- Demonstrated experience in setting up and managing NetSuite or similar financial ERP systems
