Director of Accounting- Dallas TX or St. Louis MO

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Accounting to lead our accounting department and oversee the day-to-day accounting activities. The candidate must possess a strong background in accounting, will be exceptional leading as well as doing, and exhibit the mindset and drive to continually advance the department. Ideally, the candidate for this role will have experience working in a marketing agency or other professional services firm. The person in this role will manage a small team; both our project accountants and payroll accountant will report to this role.

While the day-to-day work for this role can be done remotely, candidates must live in the Dallas/Ft. Worth or St. Louis metro area to be available for regular in-person meetings with our CFO.

Responsibilities• Lead, mentor, and manage the accounting team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.• Manage the company's accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll processes.• Oversee the project accounting function, ensuring timely, accurate billings, work-in-progress (WIP) and accounts receivable management, and project reconciliations.• Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial transactions, reporting, and compliance with relevant accounting standards.• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement efficient financial processes and controls.• Prepare and analyze financial statements, budgets, forecasts, and variance reports to provide insights to senior management.• Drive the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.• Maintain a strong understanding of industry trends, regulations, and best practices to ensure the company's financial practices remain current and compliant.• Develop and maintain relationships with external auditors, tax advisors, and financial institutions.• Identify, pursue, and implement process and technology changes that improve the speed, cost, or efficiency of the department.• Pursue continuous improvements that enhance how management and employees experience the accounting team and function.• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by the CFO.

Requirements• Bachelor's degree in accounting, CPA designation preferred.• Minimum five years of experience in relevant roles.• NetSuite expertise strongly preferred.• Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial reporting standards.• Proven experience managing accounting teams and driving process improvements.• Demonstrated professional success marked by frequent progression to new roles with increased duties and responsibilities.• Demonstrated ability as a self-starter with a "whatever it takes" attitude and an exceptionally strong work ethic that allows the candidate to thrive in a challenging work environment with little day-to-day supervision and guidance.• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills.• Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and compliance.• Strong organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines.• Strong written and oral communication skills.• Unquestionable integrity and the highest professional standards.
