Job Description

POLITICO's mission from the very beginning was to win the audience. We dedicate ourselves to providing accurate, non-partisan, impactful information to the right people at the right time so that they can act with confidence and speed. We experiment to avoid being disrupted and we have fun disrupting others. And we are not afraid to risk failure if it means being the best at what we do.

We are seeking a dynamic, hands-on Director of Brand Events to support the Vice President of Marketing and Communications and the Executive Director of Brand Experiences, and their teams, in our Arlington, Virginia headquarters. You will help drive the success of events designed to spotlight and demonstrate the power of the POLITICO brand. You will manage day-to-day planning, budgeting, and production of a portfolio of brand events for POLITICO, in partnership with key stakeholders across the organization, including Marketing and Communications, revenue teams, Editorial, and POLITICO Live. The role is highly strategic and collaborative; one that requires a combination of attention to detail, a creative approach to brand experiences, proactive communication, and nimble project management across teams and competing events.

The ideal candidate is creative and a self-starter, who thrives in fast-paced environments and can bring new ideas to life in a big way. We are looking for a highly resourceful individual who is self-motivated, agile, and entrepreneurial, who can support a dynamic calendar of events, big and small, at an exciting moment for our organization.

What You'll Do:

  • Create innovative and multi-dimensional brand experiences for POLITICO designed to engage POLITICO's target influencer audiences, VIPs, and strategic clients.
  • Work with key stakeholders to supplement POLITICO's existing portfolio of brand events, weaving together logistical planning and with creative production that brings POLITICO's mission and core franchises to life, translating the goals of each event into the design and experience.
  • Oversee all aspects of event planning, from start to finish, for a portfolio or small and large-scale brand events, inclusive of leading and supervising relationships with external production vendors and consultants, and internal stakeholders and teams, including: POLITICO's annual White House Correspondents Dinner presence, POLITICO's 2024 political conventions presence, Playbook and other franchise events, presence at key global conferences such as the Milken Institute Global Conference & WEF at Davos, and other experiential marketing events and brand engagements as the portfolio grows.
  • Establish excellent working relationships with key cross-department stakeholders, peers, and their teams, including VIP Engagement, POLITICO Live, Marketing and Communications, Editorial, external consultants, and POLITICO's executive team, among others.
  • Develop and implement project timelines to effectively meet tactical and strategic objectives across departments to ensure successful delivery, including pre-event consultation and planning, venue selection, event design, vendor and contract management, agenda development and show flow, printing and shipping, budget management, event staffing, on-site event management, event follow-up and close-out, and others as required
  • Manage budget and financial reconciliation and indentify opportunities for efficiencies and cost savings across all events
  • Own and track priorities and/or strategic projects as assigned by Vice President of Marketing and Communications and the Executive Director of Brand Experiences
  • Travel to produce events and functions outside of Washington as required
  • Support and work closely with the head of POLITICO Live on various production needs as determined; resource against a wholistic calendar of events to ensure coverage of day-to-day event tactics, systems, materials, and staff is seamless

What You'll Need:

  • 6+ years of experience in high scale event planning and production, ideally for a news or political organization; experience managing teams
  • Extensive experience supporting C-Level executives and key stakeholders on highly visible projects and events
  • Strong knowledge of the Washington, D.C. landscape, including vendors, venues, and VIP audiences, and in other key political markets as required.
  • A creative approach to connecting with key VIPs and audiences and elevating the POLITICO brand through creative production and engaging experiential marketing.
  • Excellent organizational skills, project management, and consistent attention to detail
  • Outstanding interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; ability to work in a dynamic and collaborative environment while adapting to shifting priorities and managing multiple events.
  • Ability to take and give feedback and consistently work to achieve better results; demonstrated problem solving skills and the ability to work well under pressure.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, with a dependable and consistent work ethic.
