Director of Brand Marketing and Communications
Job Description
Reporting to the CEO, the Director of Brand Marketing and Communications position brings strong marketing, communications, and community-building expertise to support the organization's mission. The ideal candidate will be responsible for creating, leading, and implementing the communications and marketing strategy for the organization. This role will oversee the brand's identity and guide a multi-channel marketing strategy (across the website, social media, and more).
The ideal candidate is a proactive, strategic and collaborative thinker who can seamlessly execute and juggle multiple projects. It's important to cultivate strong relationships inside the organization and externally with partners and press. This individual must be a self-starter with previous experience developing internal and external communications strategies. They must possess an understanding of integrated marketing, crisis communications, and digital media.
This strategic lead should have experience with startups, non-profits, and/or for profit social-impact enterprises. It's important to have a deep passion for digitalundivided's mission and work and a commitment to creating opportunities for women of color.
Requirements
What You Will Do:
- Lead the communications and marketing division for a nationally recognized nonprofit. Own all branding, marketing, and creative communications activities
- Shape the organization's storytelling and narrative and oversee content creation and community engagement
- Develop and implement internal and external communications plans and annual calendars for the organization
- Manage all social media activities including paid social, email marketing (for donors and founders) and more
- Manage and develop direct reports: a team of four including Social Media & Copywriting Manger, Assistant Lead of Communications, Graphic Designer, and Operations Manager, as well as department specific vendors and contractors
- Support to our PR Agency, that serves as the primary press contact for digitalundivided - executing on press strategy, pitching, and securing regional and national press coverage
- Support the team with planning for speaking opportunities, presentations, media training, and serving as the point person for the Ambassador Program.
- Drive proactive/reactive messaging for key programs and thought leadership initiatives
- Identify and connect with potential media, investor, brand, and community partners to boost reach
- Continuously strengthen and expand existing media, industry, and influencer relationships.
- Serve as a spokesperson for the nonprofit and lead critical conversations with founders and the broader digitalundivided community

Desired Qualifications:
- Strong ethics, high energy, and passion for digitalundivided's mission, with a focus on driving impact
- 8-10 years of professional experience, with demonstrated success leading communications and marketing for startups, nonprofits and other social impact organizations.
- Experience at mission-driven brand-building and shaping stories for diverse audiences
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to write for diverse audiences and needs.
- Deep knowledge of social media marketing, content marketing, and public relations
- Experience managing a diverse team, with a flexible and adaptable style (using project and communication management software like Asana, Monday.com, and Slack)
- Ability to work both independently without close oversight, but also a team player who will productively engage with others at varying levels of seniority within and outside digitalundivided.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
- Bachelor's degree in a related field required
