Director of Business Development - Department of Defense
Job Description
As a Director of Business Development you will interface with the Department of Defense to win new business in support of rapid organic growth in space control and space domain awareness solutions. You will identify, qualify, and advance leads, drive opportunity conversion, and participate in bid and proposal efforts within the United States Department of Defense and across all branches of the armed services and research organizations (with the exception the U.S. Space Force). You will leverage your understanding of the defense space community in the United States to develop customer and partner qualified leads, engagement plans, and provide thought leadership aligned with our company vision and business objectives.Â
Position Responsibilities:Â- Executes all position responsibilities in alignment with Slingshot’s core values, mission, and purpose.Â
- Leads Slingshot’s business development efforts for Defense expansion beyond the United States Space ForceÂ
- Pioneers and implements strategies that identify, qualify, and advance leads; drives opportunity conversion, bid and proposal efforts, and wins new defense business in support of robust and rapid organic growthÂ
- Creates, implements, optimizes and sustains predictable, repeatable, and scalable new business pipelines and existing client revenue growth processes Creates strategies to influence and shape customer requirements and acquisition strategiesÂ
- Develops, grows, and fosters trusted customer and partner relationships in partnership with key internal stakeholder teams (e.g., programs, product, engineering, science, marketing, etc.) develops responses for requests for information (RFIs), market surveys, white papers, presentations, customer briefings, and customer demonstrations
- Performs other duties as assigned (to be less than 10% of the responsibilities listed above).
- This position requires a government security clearance, you must be a U.S. citizen with at least an active Top Secret level clearance and eligible to obtain and maintain additional levels of security clearance if necessary.Â
- Bachelor's Degree in a technical or business related disciplineÂ
- 10+ years’ experience with proven business development expertise/success in the Defense market (including understanding of organizational structures, mission priorities, policy, budgets, pain points, classified structures, procurement and acquisition methodologies, and the competitive landscape both from a Prime and subcontractor perspective)Â
- Previous experience working with multiple branches of the U.S. military and respective acquisition organizations and procurement processes
- Proven track record of identifying and closing new business opportunities in relevant U.S. military program areas, including maintaining strong customer and industry relationships within the DoD to drive the sales funnel and support business growthÂ
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills with the ability to translate U.S. military mission needs and requirements into business opportunities
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the ongoing changes in the Defense space missions and organizational environment; familiarity with the U.S. military space domain awareness and related mission areasÂ
- 50% Travel RequiredÂ
- Experience working with military branches in allied countriesÂ
- Space Control mission area experienceÂ
- Working knowledge of the Shipley capture and proposal process or similar proven business development/capture methodologyÂ
