Job Description

What You’ll Do: 

Slingshot Aerospace is seeking a Director of Business Development to interface with U.S. federal government and civil agencies with operations and interests in space. This role will lead the identification, qualification and pursuit of new business opportunities within the Fed/Civ community across multiple agencies including the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), Department of Commerce (DoC), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and others. 

You must demonstrate a deep understanding of the Fed/Civ community in the United States along with partner agencies including organizational structure, mission priorities, policy, budgets, pain points, procurement and acquisition methodologies, and the competitive landscape. You will leverage this knowledge to develop customer and partner qualified leads, engagement plans, and provide thought leadership across the market. Your work will lead the development and execution of Slingshot’s go-to-market plans for major agencies within the Fed/Civ community. 

Position Responsibilities: 
  • Execute all position responsibilities in alignment with Slingshot’s core values, mission, and purpose. 
  • Lead Slingshot’s Business Development focused on the U.S. Fed/Civ community. 
  • Pioneer and implement strategies that identify, qualify, and advances leads, drives opportunity conversion, bid and proposal efforts, and wins new business in support of robust and rapid organic growth in the Fed/Civ community. 
  • Develop, implement, optimize and sustain predictable, repeatable, and scalable new business and existing client revenue growth processes for the Government Business Development organization. 
  • Identify, generate, and qualify new business opportunities to build and sustain a robust and qualified pipeline in your area of focus. 
  • Develop, grow, and foster trusted customer and partner relationships.
  • Create strategies to influence and shape customer requirements and acquisition strategies.
  • In partnership with key internal stakeholder teams (e.g., program, product, engineering, science, marketing, etc.) develop responses for requests for information (RFIs), market surveys, white papers, presentations, customer briefings, and customer demonstrations
  • Perform other duties as assigned (to be less than 10% of the responsibilities listed above). 
Pre-Requisites 
  • Active Secret Clearance 
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time 
Minimum Requirements 
  • Previous experience working with or in the U.S. federal and civil space community and respective acquisition organizations is essential. 
  • Proven track record of identifying and closing on new business opportunities in relevant U.S. federal and civil program areas. 
  • Working knowledge of U.S. Government policy, legislative, budgeting, contracting, contract types and procurement processes
  • Bachelor's Degree in a technical or business related discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, professional training, or work/intelligence/military experience.
  • 10+ years of proven enterprise-level B2G business development experience.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the U.S. federal and civil space community
  • Strong customer and industry relationships within the intelligence community and across multiple agencies to drive business growth. 
  • Proven organization, budget, acquisition, and operational experience within the Fed/Civ market. 
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills with the ability to translate U.S. federal and civil agency missions, needs and requirements into business opportunities. 
  • Proven leadership and management skills and demonstrated ability to build relationships within U.S. federal and civil agencies, work as part of a highly dynamic team and lead through influence at all levels of the organization. 
  • Working knowledge of the Shipley capture and proposal process or similar proven business development/capture methodology. 
  • 25% Travel Required
Preferred Qualifications 
  • Experience working with other aspects of the government or governments in allied countries
