Director of Capital Strategy (Charlotte, NC (Hybrid) or Fully Remote)
Job Description
Our hybrid workplace model offers the freedom to work fully remote or occasionally in one of our offices. This is a remote position with a hybrid option for candidates based in Charlotte, NC.
How you'll contribute:
As a Director of Capital Strategy, you'll be responsible for leading cross- functional efforts to manage the company's capital strategy through statutory, rating agency and economic capital frameworks and proactively mitigate risks related to capital requirements. The position has one direct report, Capital Analytics Manager.
In this role, you'll get to:
- Manage the development and refinement of capital models that produce integrated and just-in-time calculations and projections of capital positions
- Lead reporting and analysis of models to inform senior management on current and projected capital positions from S&P, Moody's, Fitch, and AM Best, as well as ALIRT
- Review rating agency survey submissions for accuracy and evaluate capital model impacts
- Review capital models from rating agencies and identify any discuss any discrepancies with agencies
- Create and deliver proposals in collaboration with key internal stakeholders to optimize capital and minimize risk to support the company's business strategy and remain compliant with various capital requirements
- Assist in the analysis and implementation of capital optimization strategies and special projects
- Collaborate with Controllers group on quarterly RBC attribution
- Support reporting and communication efforts related to statutory, GAAP, and economic capital considerations to stakeholders, including senior management, regulators, and auditors
- Understand and support the communication of the implications of all significant transactions from a statutory, GAAP, and economic capital framework
- Assist in reporting activities to the Board of Directors and senior management related to capital strategy
- Lead the BRCD Hedge Working Group to maintain appropriate protection of cash flow testing margins across interest rate scenarios and complete quarterly hedge effectiveness assertions
- Represent Treasury on GA ALM, VA ALM, Assumptions, Macro Hedge, VA Communication working groups
- Collaborate with reinsurance team particularly on financial reinsurance and other transactions that impact capital
- Direct communication with ALIRT and organize annual meeting
We're looking for people who have:
- 10+ years of experience with increasing responsibilities in the areas of corporate finance, capital strategy and financial modeling within large financial institutions
- Experience managing, motivating and developing a small team
- Undergraduate degree in related discipline required; MBA, CPA, FSA and/or CFA preferred
- Strong understanding of statutory, GAAP, and economic accounting and capital frameworks
- Demonstrated experience managing large, complex Excel models
- Experience with capital management, detailed analyses, and coordination with senior leaders on implementing actions to take advantage of opportunities or mitigate economic risks identified
- Industry leading knowledge of financial markets and economics including derivatives and hedging strategies
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and management skills with the ability to persuade, negotiate, and arbitrate to influence others to effect change and achieve desired results
- Demonstrated ability to consider multiple views while making business decisions
