What Category Management contributes to Cardinal Health:

Category Management is responsible for cross functional collaboration that helps to deliver sales, profitability and inventory productivity goals by capitalizing on retail marketplace and shopper trends in designated categories. Manages and optimizes supplier relationships and product portfolio to drive financial results, increase market share and exceed customer expectations.

Job Summary:

The Director, Category Management drives overall revenue and profitability by spurring profitable growth through the execution of business strategy and portfolio management. The job will balance product portfolio to manage both Cardinal and third-party products to achieve optimal profitability.

Responsibilities:

  • Leads a team of category managers and category assistants in developing business plans that support the needs and expectations of our customers and delivers the division objectives
  • Merging customer insights, market trends and business acumen to develop, deploy and activate teams to deliver strategies that drive growth and unlock profitability
  • Manages and changes portfolio composition and product mix
  • Responsible for setting and delivering the overarching vision, strategic framework and budget for the health and beauty care team
  • Actively oversees and coaches team on product selection, pricing, placement and promotional activity
  • Engages in continuous collaboration among internal and external partners to develop best practices, take down barriers and innovate for better company results and customer satisfaction
  • Communicates with Marketing and other functions on business strategy and go to market plans
  • Responsible for monitoring product recalls and compliance with contracts and agreements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent years of experience preferred
  • 6+ years' experience in category management / retail merchandising strongly preferred
  • 3+ years' experience in management
  • Diverse experience leading merchant, marketing, pricing, planning, sourcing and private brand teams in B to B and B to C settings preferred
  • Strong command of retail category management principles and practices
  • Experience leading teams, managing operational budget and providing leadership guidance to managers and professional staff, required
  • Ability to maneuver in a highly matrixed or complex business environments
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively, interact with personnel at all levels and gain consensus from stakeholders and Senior leadership
  • Results oriented, strategic thinker, able to work in a team environment and independently develop and execute plans to meet objectives

  • Provides leadership to managers and experienced professional staff; may also manage front line supervisors
  • Manages an organizational budget
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures to achieve organizational goals
  • Assists in the development of functional strategy
  • Decisions have an extended impact on work processes, outcomes, and customers
  • Interacts with internal and/or external leaders, including senior management
  • Persuades others into agreement in sensitive situations while maintaining positive relationships
