As the Director, Commerce at Outside, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing and scaling our affiliate programs across all of our editorial brands. This position involves a dynamic mix of managing affiliate platforms, striking deals, comprehensive reporting, and staying on top of rapidly evolving industry trends. You will be at the forefront of our affiliate commerce strategies, working closely with editorial, SEO, and product teams to integrate new affiliate partnerships aligned with our editorial initiatives, including product reviews and buying guides. Your expertise will be essential in identifying growth opportunities within content and commerce , as well as in tracking and communicating the performance of our commerce partnerships to both internal and external stakeholders. Since this is a nascent business with tremendous greenfield opportunity, the candidate must have an action-oriented, results-driven bias while balancing that with a collaborative working style.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage Affiliate Programs: Oversee all business aspects of our affiliate programs within the Outside Network, including platform management, analytics, and deal negotiation.
- Collaborate to build commerce revenue targets with editorial stakeholders based on multi-year strategic plans.
- Negotiate favorable commission structures and terms and build relationships with affiliate networks and direct merchant deals.
- Collaborate with Editorial, SEO, and Product Teams: Work closely with editorial and product teams to launch new affiliate partnerships, ensuring they complement our editorial priorities and initiatives, and feature best practices consistent with a consumer journey mindset.
- Identify Growth Opportunities: Continuously monitor content and commerce trends to identify and capitalize on growth opportunities for our affiliate programs.
- Performance Tracking: Monitor and report on the performance of commerce partnerships, providing actionable insights to optimize strategies and capture incremental revenue.
- Stakeholder Communication: Maintain transparent and consistent communication with editorial and commercial stakeholders, sharing performance updates, proposals, and forecasts.
- Project Collaboration: Collaborate on various projects and proposals with different teams to drive affiliate program success and quality assurance.
- Industry Research: Travel to various affiliate marketing and lead generation conferences for the purpose of prospecting and recruitment of new partners, learning about new best practices and innovation, and keeping abreast of competitor activities
Qualifications:
- 5+ years proven experience in managing and growing affiliate programs, particularly in a media or publishing setting, or at an affiliate marketing network
- Strong understanding of content trends and their impact on commerce.
- Excellent business development, negotiation, and relationship management skills.
- Ability to analyze data and provide insights for performance optimization
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, capable of working effectively with cross-functional, remote teams
- Familiarity with affiliate networks interfaces and industry-standard analytic tools, such as Parse.ly, GA4, and/or Amplitude
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, or a related field is preferred but not required

Entirely remote jobs that could be performed in Colorado: Employees can expect to be paid a salary of between $115,000 to $145,000. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission . Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, Flexible Time Away, sick leave, and more. This salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant’s location, market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors
