Motional’s mission is to make driverless vehicles a safe, reliable and accessible reality.  We are seeking a Director of Commercial Operations Strategy to help define and build the future of transportation. This is a key role that reports to the Senior Director of Deployments and sits at the intersection of Strategy, Commercialization and Operations. In this role you will be leading the operations commercialization strategy and developing the playbook for scaled deployment of autonomous electric vehicles. You will work closely with cross functional stakeholders from engineering, operations, strategy and product as well as stakeholders from our growing list of external partners. We are looking for candidates who are excited about delivering the future vision of safe, autonomous mobility.  

What you’ll be doing:

• Define the strategy and processes to support a large fleet of autonomous electric vehicles
• Build a playbook to support the deployment of autonomous vehicles covering all operational areas including:
• Dispatching depots, Depot network strategy, Vehicle charging, Vehicle maintenance and repair, Autonomous Driving System (ADS) maintenance and repair, Sensor calibration, On-road vehicle support, Vehicle financing
• Work closely with established fleet operators to address key challenges to drive adoption of autonomous vehicles into their fleet
• Develop a compelling product offering for deployment of electric autonomous vehicles in partnership with industry leading fleet operators
• Serve as a key advisor to the Executive Team by maintaining a strong understanding of the industry and competitive landscape including fleet operators
• Work with internal and external stakeholders to optimize commercial operations and develop continuous improvement projects to enhance our overall service quality and reduce cost of operations

What are we looking for:

• MBA (or equivalent experience) with a demonstrated record of success
• 10+ years of professional experience in operations and strategy roles
• Hands-on experience launching new markets, new services, and new partnerships for large fleet operators
• Demonstrated success driving operational efficiency in large fleets (e.g. automotive, aviation, etc)
• Strong critical thinking skills with ability to elevate thinking and apply judgment during analysis about how components fit together and with bigger picture
• Strong leadership skills and ability to work independently and as a member of a team, and coach junior team members
• Ability to leverage experience and analysis to gain support and influence others
• Strong quantitative, analytical, storytelling, and written / oral communication skills
• Strong, confident, and credible executive presence
• Advanced proficiency with spreadsheets and presentation tools (e.g. Excel, Powerpoint)
• Adept at working in a fast-paced environment with incomplete information; able to manage multiple projects/stakeholders concurrently and balance strategic/tactical priorities to advance initiatives based on known information, judgment, and orchestration of diverse stakeholders
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed
