Director of Compliance Operations

Location: Hybrid in New York 

Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of regulatory and/or compliance experience, including experience working within regulated financial services 
  • 3+ years of people management experience within a compliance or other regulated role at a company with global locations
  • 2+ years of experience in first line compliance operations and processes 
  • Self-motivated, critical thinker and adept at working independently in a dispersed team environment, covering multiple and varied tasks
  • Skilled at leading through influence and collaborating with partners to drive better outcomes
  • Strong organizational skills combined with analytical thinking
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, intuitive, highly ethical and comfortable with challenging the status quo

Bonus points:

  • Experience with MTL application and building out processes, including transaction monitoring and go-live
  • Experience with building and maintaining operational compliance work streams
  • Ability to communicate technical aspects of rule sets, APIs and features to non-technical cross-functional team members
  • Experience managing a global team, including managing managers
  • Hands on experience in transaction monitoring and sanction related alerts
  • CAMS, ICA, or equivalent certification

A day in the life and how you’ll make an impact:

  • Provide the first line design and oversee the implementation and ongoing performance of controls to ensure Melio’s product and flow of funds are operating in line with internal policies as well as external requirements and regulations 
  • Oversee the transaction monitoring and sanction screening programs, escalations and investigations as well as the preparation of any required regulatory reports including Suspicious Activity Reports under the Bank Secrecy Act and reports to the Office of Foreign Assets Control as required by applicable sanctions regimes
  • Develop and improve operational compliance processing and procedures related to transaction monitoring, sanction screening, investigations and cross department uplift
  • Work cooperatively with partners, auditors and regulatory agencies as needed, and oversee remediation of findings generated in reviews by partners, auditors, and regulatory agencies, including planning, implementation and communication of timelines
  • Keep employee and leadership informed on any arising compliance issues and proactively suggesting steps that should be taken to address them
  • Working in partnership with the second-line Compliance team, advising Product teams on compliance considerations and helping to identify solutions that deliver good outcomes for end users that also meet policy requirements 
  • Manage a global team of Compliance Analysts who are responsible for Melio’s sanction screening and transaction monitoring workflows
  • Build and scale a US based team to work cross-functionally alongside the existing Tel Aviv team, and plan team hiring and development in line with the company and functional growth

The Risk & Compliance Team works to protect Melio's platform and users from fraudulent, abusive and prohibited activity. We work cross functionally, with nearly every function in the company, to ensure we are seeing the correct information to make the right decisions.
