Job Summary

The Director of Continuous Improvement, PJFS is responsible to lead continuous improvement processes across all of the Supply Chain and PJFS groups. This role is responsible to lead continuous improvement strategy for PJFS and help build a culture and processes that support on-going continuous improvement efforts.

Duties and Responsibilities (other duties as assigned)

  • Design, develop and coordinate the implementation of continuous improvement projects. Design and implement corporate and field level processes that will enhance the scalability of a continuous improvement culture and strategy.
  • Develop and maintain long-term strategic planning for continuous improvement projects that include productivity enhancements/cost savings. Track associated savings comparing against developed ROI commitments.
  • Function as a key member on the PJFS Corporate Team leading and demonstrating Papa John's Core values.
  • Gemba walk facilities with operations, safety, and quality partners to identify bottlenecks, waste streams, and improvement areas. Work closely with internal and external resources to propose solutions relative to identified opportunity areas.
  • Facilitate successful kaizen events, and rapid improvement process events with both internal and external resources.
  • Work directly with corporate and field partners to understand key gaps and issues from an execution perspective. Advocate for internal/external resources to support initiatives to address gaps as part of the continuous improvement roadmap.
  • Identify performance metrics, KPIs and baselines, while advocating for goals and targets to address relevant impacts (e.g., energy usage, labor, waste streams, fleet utilization).
  • Build and work with a cohesive network of vendors that can partner with Papa John's through our network design and execution.
  • Partner with QCC Operations and Finance departments to work collaboratively through applicable costing and finance impacts.
  • Participate in Papa John's ESG Committee, an internal cross-functional team advancing the company's ESG strategy and goals.
  • Administer the manufacturing execution system while working with operations team to enhance future integrations and development opportunities.
  • Ensure all work and activities are performed in accordance with established safety, quality and environmental standards.

Education, Experience & Certifications

  • B.S. in Engineering (Industrial, Chemical, Mechanical), Manufacturing Engineering, Continuous Improvement, or Supply Chain Management from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on project management experience across life cycles greater than 8 months. Food experience is a plus.
  • Experience in Kaizen, TPM, lean, and formal problem-solving techniques. Experience in reliability engineering.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% to Quality Control Centers for project development, process system evaluation(s), and value stream mapping exercises. Ability to work off hours and weekends as operational schedules permit.

Functional Skills

  • Ability to work with multidisciplinary trades, technical specialists, field operators, and construction personnel.
  • Stellar communication with a proven history working cross-functionally with various teams from project ideation through field execution at both a corporate and field level.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite
  • Understanding of field level unit energy inputs and outputs.
  • Ability to read construction plans, equipment and shop drawings, P&IDs, etc.
  • Experience with energy management software is a plus. Understanding of environmental standards such as Greenhouse Gas Protocol, LEED, TRUE, and ISO 14000 also is a plus.
  • Ability to work in a food manufacturing facility and industrialized atmosphere.
  • Knowledgeable of applicable safety, food safety, and environmental requirements.
  • Hands-on experience developing a CI culture
  • Knowledge and capability to implement relevant improvement tools, processes, and projects
  • Cross-functional and multi-site collaborative leadership
  • Process improvement in manufacturing, warehousing, and food related settings
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple concurrent projects
