Director of Development

The mission at Satoshi Energy is to enable every electric power company to utilize bitcoin in order to accelerate progress toward a world with decentralized sound money and abundant sustainable energy. The company was founded in 2018 on two premises: 1) energy companies will leverage bitcoin mining to support investment in low cost sustainable energy, and 2) energy companies operating in 24/7 power markets will benefit from 24/7 real time financial settlement. Today, we are a market leader connecting nearly 2 gigawatts of renewable energy assets with bitcoin mining data centers under novel contract structures while building a suite of tools to enable energy companies to transact in bitcoin. In the future, we envision every kilowatt-hour streamed to an energy consumer will be settled instantaneously with a payment streamed to the energy producer.

As Director of Development, you will join a small, focused team of bitcoiners, engineers, finance experts, and energy experts and lead our development projects from inception to operation including managing stakeholder deliverables, managing project consultants and contractors, managing project budgets, managing project schedules, working with permitting agencies, negotiating with land owners, work with utilities and ISOs, and more. As we grow, you will be instrumental in helping to build the team, drive the company strategy, and build a more sustainable future.

Primary Responsibilities

• Lead the development team in execution of data center projects located in the footprint of utility-scale renewable energy projects
• Build and maintain a pipeline of projects to support annual sales goals
• Develop roadmap and execute on expansion to new power markets outside of ERCOT (e.g. SPP, MISO, foreign markets, etc.)
• Establish and maintain relationships with core development partners (utilities, IPPs, legal, etc.)
• Guide development strategy and processes (MW targets, ISOs, location, interconnection strategy, and partner network)
• Set annual goals, priorities and budgets for internal project development teams and personnel

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience developing utility scale renewable energy projects or energy storage projects
• Demonstrated knowledge of utility scale renewable energy project and/or energy storage project value propositions, design, and engineering
• Demonstrated knowledge of power contracts, including PPA structures and retail agreements, energy and capacity markets, and ancillary services markets
• Demonstrated experience with land lease contracts, general permitting, interconnection, and other issues required for a renewable energy or energy storage project
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Demonstrated experience with project management tools
• Self motivated with the flexibility and willingness to work on various initiatives simultaneously and prioritize effectively
• Pushes the boundaries of what is possible (first principles thinker) and takes initiative on new tasks.
