Director of Engineering

Position Overview:

Eaton Corporation's Commercial and Residential Distribution Solutions (CRDS) Division is seeking a Director of Engineering for their Commercial Products and Assemblies (CPA) product lines. This position can be based in our facilities in Charlotte or Arden, NC, Sumter or Hodges, SC, Cleveland, TN or El Paso, TX.

Reporting to the Sr VP/GM, the Director of Engineering is responsible for all aspects of product engineering within the CRDS Division's Commercial Products and Assemblies product lines. She/he will have overall responsibility for developing new products, cost out through design (VAVE) and sustaining engineering on existing product lines. This person will also oversee engineering of Panelboards, Switchboards, Safety Switches, Busway, Dry Type Distribution Transformers and Automatic Transfer Switches. This position is accountable for meeting New Product Revenue and Vitality targets, cost out savings via redesign (VAVE) and supporting the maintenance of existing products including material substitutions, design quality improvements and codes and standards changes.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Works with product management to set the product roadmap and waterline strategy to grow the business with winning new products and technologies
• Works with CRDS Director of Innovation to maintain and refine a 5-year technology roadmap.
• Directly oversees engineering functions across CPA and ensures we have the right skillsets to meet our objectives. Attracts and retains a talented, diverse engineering team.
• Own's VAVE (cost out by design) target setting, execution and continuous deck building for CPA.
• Sustains all product lines overseeing Maintenance of Line (MOL) teams in plants. Ensures we have technical oversight and approvals for material substitutions, new supplier and new factory qualifications, codes and standards changes, quality and yield excursions and general technical product support for sales, marketing and operations.
• Key member of CPA leadership staff creating strategic vision for product lines including embracing new markets like Energy Transition and Digital.
• Keeps current on changing technologies and best practices. Particularly Energy Transition trends, IoT/digital technology, electrical, breaker and IoT component roadmaps, codes and standards for electrical safety and additive manufacturing.
• Works with the Program Management function to execute detailed project schedules incorporating resource management, milestone deliverables, and administration of Prelaunch and PROLaunch projects.
• Works with CRDS Engineering staff to continuously improve and standardize our use of Eaton Business System engineering elements (PROLaunch, Prelaunch, DFSS, Portfolio Management and Technology Roadmaps) across CRDS product lines.
• Develops and oversees advanced technology programs with Eaton Research Labs.
• Coordinates work across global design centers for CPA in Sumter, SC; Hodges, SC; Asheville, NC; Cleveland, TN, Juarez MX and Pune, IN.
• Manage R&D expense and Capital spending for CPA.
• Develops strategy leads execution of an Engineer to Order optimization program for CPA for standardization and automation across the 20+ sites (main plants, design centers and satellite locations) to drive shorter lead times and more consistent, standardized product configurations

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

• 12 years of product engineering experience with new product development focus.
• 7 years of leadership of people in product engineering
• Authorized to work in the United States without Company sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications:

• Deep understanding of the physics of electricity, power distribution, UL and IEC safety standards.
• Understands the Electrical Power Distribution market, regulatory influences, the competitive landscape and broader context of the business strategy
• Advanced proficiency in software, cloud, firmware, electronics and application development.
• Business-savvy, team player working collaboratively with all functions achieve the CPA goals
• Communicates an inspiring vision of the future across the organization.
• Empathizes and actively learns about customer's needs and how they create value
• Navigates through ambiguity and deals with the paradox of making quality decisions amidst uncertainty.
• Takes an active role to invest in developing talent to meet the needs of the future business
• Shows a global perspective and cultural awareness to interact with colleagues across geographies and takes an inclusive approach to drive alignment.
• Drives change to ensure the function is supportive and aligned with the new direction and objectives; challenges the status quo
• Excellent communication skills for all levels of the org. Ability to connect across CRDS product teams and instill trust.

Education:

• An undergraduate degree from an accredited institution is required
• An Advanced degree is preferred

Compensation:
