Director of Engineering

Position Overview

Our Engineering team is growing quickly, and we are looking to add a key player to our amazing team! As the Director of Engineering, you will be both a leader and a mentor, and own communication across all teams. You will have full autonomy + ambiguity with your day-to-day, unmatched resources to develop yourself professionally, and the opportunity to bring some of the fastest growing tech companies in the world to new heights!

Details of the role

• Type of Work: Full-time
• Location: Remote, San Diego based preferred
• Pay: $150k/yr + DOE
• Years of experience: 5+

What you'll be doing:

• Lead, inspire, and influence to ensure the success of the team.
• Partner with the recruiting team to attract and retain high-quality and diverse talent.
• Establish a great rapport with other department leaders (Project Management, Growth, Design and Customer Success)
• Ensure teams have appropriate technical direction, leadership, and balance between short-term impact and long-term architectural vision.
• Partner with peer functions and organizations to deliver the training and enablement the team requires
• Create, document and implement engineering process that solves for scale
• Ensure that the group remains execution focused and effective in a fast paced and sometimes ambiguous environment.
• Drive continuous systems improvement for managing, documenting, staffing, and reviewing engineering projects and services

What you bring to the table:

• 8+ years managing software engineering teams in consumer Web products. Strong familiarity with modern frontend frameworks (Next.js and Gatsby)
• Experience leading a distributed software engineering organization of multiple teams.
• Strong technical background that allows you to understand, advocate for and support your engineers and engineering leaders.
• Experience building strong partnerships with other job functions, like the Project Management, Marketing, Design, and Customer Success to keep teams collaborating smoothly and working together to improve the product.
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technology field required; Masters degree preferred.
• Ability to handle a heavy workload with multiple projects and frequent interruptions.
• Ability to work in a changing, dynamic environment.

Tools and Tech that you love

• Javascript
• React 
• NodeJS
• Understanding of the other server languages such as Ruby, Rails, Python
• Understanding of deployment systems such as Vercel, Gatsby, Cloud, and Netlify

Nice to have, but not necessary

• Experience with TypeScript
• Prior experience at another high growth company/agency
• Have a solid understanding of the industry and user experience
• Be based in San Diego

At the same time, we sometimes have to convey difficult news that something isn’t possible or supported at this time, and it can be challenging to disappoint our eager, loyal, and thriving customer base.
• Wearing many hats is challenging. As the PM, you are at the epicenter of your team. You will need to have a grounded understanding and pulse check for all work that is going down, as you are the main point of contact for the client.
