The Position

Reports to: Chief Commercial Technology Officer
By leveraging our industry expertise and data science we help our clients to accelerate their performance in an ever-evolving marketplace. To support and execute our technology enabled business strategy, we are currently seeking a Director, Engineering.
The role will be responsible to lead the Engineering and QA team to deliver on business strategy. The role will drive all phases of development and integration to ensure that solutions meet business needs and align with our strategy and standards. As a core member of the technology team, the Director, Engineering will lead technical requirements definition, engineering capacity, planning and output, QA process including automation, and vendor integration.

The Position
Position Title: Director, Engineering
Location: Philadelphia / Remote

By leveraging our industry expertise and data science we help our clients to accelerate their performance in an ever-evolving marketplace. To support and execute our technology enabled business strategy, we are currently seeking a Director, Engineering.
The role will be responsible to lead the Engineering and QA team to deliver on business strategy. The role will drive all phases of development and integration to ensure that solutions meet business needs and align with our strategy and standards. As a core member of the technology team, the Director, Engineering will lead technical requirements definition, engineering capacity, planning and output, QA process including automation, and vendor integration.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Direct and manage engineering resource allocation, schedules, and budget.
- Ensuring all engineering deliverables, initiatives and processes are aligned to best practices and policies.
- Manage and oversee development with 3rd party vendors, partners and outsourced (onshore and offshore) development.
- Collaborate and work closely with multiple teams consisting of our Product Management, Research and Corporate IT teams, and external subcontractors and vendors to identify, select, and implement technology solutions that will meet business needs.
- Manage hiring, training, performance reviews and development plans for engineering team members.
- Facilitate engineering team(s) to accomplish optimal team performance, ensuring code branching strategy implemented, QA / unit test coverage and automation targets are met.
- Manage level 3 support, including process and escalations.
- Assist removing technical obstacles, help enhance team processes, handle resource issues, and interact with team members to assure sprint iteration and product release is successfully delivered.
- Evaluate technology trends like emerging standards for fresh technology opportunities.
- Report on project schedule as well as progress on weekly basis.
- Develop and review all technical sales material.
- Provide support for the completion of RFPs to support client sales and onboarding.
- Mentor less experienced staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
The Person
Qualifications & Experience
- Experience in a wide area of software development including web & mobile applications, data warehouse and analytics, and high-volume/high-availability applications.
- Well versed in Agile methodologies.
- Strong communication skills to engage effectively with senior business, leadership, and clients where applicable.
- Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience in software development and a minimum of 3 years managerial experience.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and experience leading technical teams.
- Recent relevant experience implementing and deploying enterprise scale applications in AWS or other major cloud platforms.
- Solid understanding of data integration, data modeling, data migration and data transformation pipelines or processes.
- Ability to gather and build subject matter expertise via existing SMEs, research & exploration, code analysis & debugging, etc.
- Ability to incorporate feedback from domain experts, make well-reasoned recommendations, and effectively communicate recommendations to stakeholders.
- Strong knowledge of big data, analytics, artificial intelligence technologies, machine learning, deep learning, batch data analytics and real time streaming data analytics.
Technical Requirements
- Expertise in Relational database (strongly prefer Postgres, but any of MySQL, MSSQL).
- Expertise in NoSQL Databases (such as Redis, MongoDB).
- Expertise with application development language (require Python/Django, but helpful to have any of Java, .NET, ruby, etc)
- Expertise in serverless technologies (such as Lambda, API Gateway and CloudWatch).
- Expertise in data modelling, management, documentation, and communication.
- Expertise in front-end development languages such as Html, CSS, JavaScript and React.
- Experience in JIRA and Confluence.
- Experience using GitHub, and GitFlow branching strategy.
