Director of Engineering (Account Management)
Job Description
Avant is looking for an experienced engineering director to lead the account management organization's money movement and loan teams.
As the engineering director, you will be responsible for maintaining our current stack while collaborating with your colleagues to develop and execute a new vision for our payment and loan architecture. We need someone who can balance both strategic and tactical aspects of their work.
You'll also work closely with cross-functional teams, including product, design, operations, and compliance, to design processes that enhance efficiency and employee satisfaction for all Avant employees.

This position may require you to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. What You Will Do at Avant:
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to a team of engineers and developers in the design, development, testing, and deployment of Avant's products and services. Ensure that the development team follows best practices, industry standards, and company policies.
- Work closely with product management and other cross-functional teams to develop and execute the product strategy. Drive innovation and identify new opportunities for growth and expansion in the fintech space to continue developing critical product features.
- Ensure that both teams and technologies continuously improve by establishing and maintaining an Avant training program.
- Take pride in building a reliable and scalable product while working with great colleagues, tools, and frameworks.
- Hire, train, and mentor a team of engineers and developers, ensuring that they have the necessary skills and resources to deliver high-quality fintech products and services. Develop and implement a talent development program to build a strong pipeline of future leaders.
- Develop and measure Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) to improve KPIs for platform resilience, developer experience, and time to market.
What You Need to Be a Fit at Avant:
- 14+ years in product engineering leadership roles.
- 6+ years of people management experience.
- A Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent practical experience is required.
- Competence in distributed systems, event-driven architecture, and high-availability design is necessary to meet strict SLO objectives.
- You should take pride in building reliable and scalable products, and enjoy working with great colleagues, tools, and frameworks.
- Startup experience is a plus.
- You should value scale as overall team efficiency, not just the number of employees.
