Director of Engineering, Firmware

The FW director role at Lunar is a key leadership position in a company where the functionality and integration of our product is core to the success of the company. Lunar is looking for a leader with experience developing and shipping low level firmware for complex systems. We expect our leaders to be technically excellent - able to support the team with technical direction and problem solving. We also expect our leaders to be outstanding people leaders who are driven to help their team and the company succeed. This means outstanding organization and communication, and the ability to drive schedules and solve technical challenges quickly. If (when) there is a problem, we expect our leaders to be hands-on - in the lab or on the line, shoulder to shoulder with the engineers to help unblock/solve/make the team successful.

In this role, you will:

• Organize, inspire, hire for, and drive an FW team to deliver excellent work on a tight timeline
• Dive deep with the team to find solutions and turn things around quickly when problems and blockers come up.
• Work cross functionally to translate top level program and business requirements into detailed FW execution plans.
• Drive execution to these plans, conduct team meetings, support trade-off analysis, communicate status, and identify/resolve blocking issues.
• Stay on top of and drive the architecture, design details, schedules, and issues resolution of code in a complex system across 7+ processors.
• Ensure released code is high quality and regression tested.

About you:

• Technically excellent at low level embedded C
• Hands-on with code reviews, and mentoring
• Likely to be found in the lab helping to solve a problem or making sure all team members are unblocked
• Experience managing complicated cross-functional developments
• Experience developing, launching, and scaling code with high quality at a high volume
• Strong intuition for, and interest in, designing systems for testability and scalability
• Outstanding written and verbal communication
• A strong sense of ownership and responsibility to help your team deliver
• Strong at process development aimed at making the FW group and the company successful in a cross functional environment including stakeholders in Systems, Controls, EE, Manufacturing Test, and Manufacturing.
• Expertise in firmware for low level control of power electronics or motor controls a plus
• Relevant renewable energy or electric power train experience a plus
• Experience developing code to UL 1998 or a similar standard a plus
• BS/MS/PhD. in CS, EE or similar field.
