Summary

American Coatings Association (ACA) seeks a Director of Events & Conference Programs to join our team. This position will be responsible for the planning and execution of programs and events for the association. This position requires collaboration with all ACA’s departments and subsidiaries.

About ACA

ACA is a voluntary, nonprofit organization working to advance the needs of the paint and coatings industry and the professionals who work in it. Through advocacy of the industry and its positions on legislative, regulatory, and judicial issues at the federal, state and local levels, it acts as an effective ally ensuring that the industry is represented and fairly considered. The association focuses on advancements in science and technology through its technical conferences and journals, and offers essential business information to members through its publications, surveys, and business programs.

Responsibilities

• Report to Vice President of Events.
• Travel required.
• Create budgets for each meeting/conference.
• Create RFP’s for venue selection and comparison.
• Handle contract negotiations and site inspections for larger events.
• Hire and work with various vendors for each event.
• Work with multiple staff liaisons on the different meetings.
• Assist Manager of Events with execution of all in-house meetings.
• Work closely with Communications Department to promote meetings and update website.
• Responsible for 8-10 committee meetings/events outside of ACA headquarters, including two international events.
• Support development and execution of webinars and virtual conferences.
• CoatingsTech Conference – Staff liaison to an industry program committee who will determine the technical program. Responsible for all logistics pertaining to the execution of the conference (i.e., site selection, contract negotiation, meeting logistics, AV, catering, sponsorships, speaker coordination, awards, etc.)
• Sponsorships – Create opportunities and actively solicit prior and new sponsors for each event.
• ACS – Assist VP with various aspects of the American Coatings Show and Conference. Will manage 6-8 committee meetings that are held in conjunction with the show and conference, including the awards banquet and sponsorship opportunities connected to the meetings.
• Create a final report and budget reconciliation for each event.
• · 7-10 years minimum experience required (preferably at an Association).
• · Experience developing and managing budgets.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications

• Must have excellent interpersonal skills and be an effective communicator with both internal and external stakeholders.
• Must be able to multiple demanding projects simultaneously.
• Requires excellent oral and written communications skills, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
• Excellent customer service skills required.

Location

This position is located at ACA headquarters in Washington, DC and will operate within a hybrid work environment (working both onsite and remotely).
