The Operations Strategic Capabilities Unit plays a fundamental role in enabling efficient business and program execution - from technologies and investments to supply chain, manufacturing and test operations, facilities management, and information technology services.
Director of Facilities & Support Services
The Director of Facilities & Support Services serves as the operational center for the Facilities organization. Providing vision, strategic and tactical support for all groups under the Facilities umbrella, this position organizes and oversees the efficient execution of building related process to support programs across the business. This position is responsible for directing, planning, coordinating, and setting the strategy in support of the 2,000,000+SF Ball Aerospace building portfolio to ensure the Operations organization meets the goals set forth by the business. This includes building construction, lease management, maintenance management, and delivery of services in support of the business. This position oversees the standardization of process, training, and employee development as well as the reporting of current metrics and issues.
What You'll Do:
  • Direct and manage all aspects of facilities, sustainability, workplace services, maintenance, construction, and facilities safety issues.
  • Direct the implementation of support and growth strategies that cover all aspects maintenance for the 38 buildings within the Ball Aerospace national real estate portfolio.
  • Partner with Strategic Business Units (SBUs) and Strategic Capabilities Units (SCUs) to align current and future operational capabilities with evolving business needs and government compliance requirements.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with all Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) from a permitting, growth, and compliance perspective.
  • Negotiate incentives on Ball's behalf for new construction and large capital projects.
  • Create strategies and systems that enable the efficient day-to-day operations of a highly complex and varied array of business systems within the Operations organization.
  • Provide overall value stream oversight and management, bridge the gaps between all interrelated parties.
  • Determine, communicate, and execute to short-and-long term goals as they relate to the buildings and infrastructure to meet the business goals.
  • Negotiate key services and construction contracts on behalf of Facilities.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to develop and define strategic direction as it relates to the Facilities organization.
  • Develop strategies relating to workplace utilization to ensure office space is effectively utilized.
  • Ensure cost effective execution of all goods and services contracts.
  • Create and evolve building strategies to support the long-term recapitalization of Ball Facilities.
  • Oversee departmental personnel issues including hiring, firing, evaluations and disciplinary actions.
  • Lead annual budget planning from a capital and overhead perspective across the organization.
  • Collaborate with all support functions including HR, Finance, EH&S, and Engineering to ensure that Facilities is meeting their needs.
  • Serve as a customer interface to the Operations organization, serving as the communications hub for the Operations department.
  • Provide a contact point for the organization that will allow efficient rollout of process and procedures under the Operations umbrella.
  • Develop and execute the Facilities operational strategy with a 3-5 year near term view and a 15-20 year long term view.
  • Provide project executive support for large/technical/sensitive or legally intensive projects from inception, design, fabrication/construction, and close out.
  • Work with Industrial Operations to implement Facilities solutions for forecasted program needs.
  • Manage Facilities' impact to the business through the efficient use of metrics to ensure efficient utilization of systems.
  • Provide a link to the EHS organization ensuring that the safety of our employees is always first and foremost.
  • Provide roll up level information for the Operations department, including staffing, rates, EVA, and capital spend.
  • Provide efficient and effective project management services across the organization through the Facilities PMO.
  • Be active in valuing diversity (of thought, background, gender, race/ethnicity) and inclusion to drive greater business effectiveness and innovation.
  • Ensure that all business is conducted using the highest standards and in compliance with all applicable laws, statutes, and regulations as well as company policies and directives.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

What You'll Need:
  • BS/BA in related field plus 15 years or more related experience.
  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • Degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, or related field such as project management, business management or construction management (Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil Engineering) preferred.
  • Master's degree is a plus.
  • A detailed understand of secure space, different accreditations, and construction methods and requirements for secure space.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the areas of Collaboration, Organizational Agility, Conflict Management, Managerial Courage, and Process Management.
  • Experience mentoring, training, and staffing employees with a strong commitment to improving organizational diversity and inclusion.
  • A continuous improvement mindset that is open to making change based on data.
  • The ability to influence without authority in large cross functional teams.
  • In depth knowledge of strategic planning and conducting strategic planning sessions.
  • Demonstrated track record of employee empowerment, team building, and extraordinary performance.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, public speaking, and organizational skills, with the ability to effectively manage within a highly varied environment with high levels of autonomy.
  • A history of providing extraordinary customer service to multiple customers at all levels.
  • Experience managing and leading multiple large teams concurrently.
  • Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with staff at all levels of the organization and be a team player.
  • Proficiency with basic office equipment and software including, MS Office, Excel, Word Outlook, PC, plotters and other office equipment.
  • Active TS/SCI Clearance highly desirable.

Full-Time On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site full-time. Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.

  • Work is performed in an office environment, laboratory, cleanroom, or production floor.

A current DoD clearance and/or SCI access with Polygraph is not required to be eligible for this position, however applicant must be willing and eligible for submission within 60-90 days after an offer is accepted and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance/access. Compensation & Benefits:
  • HIRING SALARY RANGE: $175,500 - $243,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
  • Subject to business performance and recommendations of management, this role may be eligible to participate in an incentive compensation plan.
  • Subject to business and individual performance, and recommendations of management, this role may be eligible to participate in a long-term incentive compensation plan.
