Director of Federal Marketing
Job Description
Shift5 is looking for a highly motivated, self-driven, and experienced Director of Federal Marketing to join our marketing team.  This person will be responsible for developing, shaping, owning, and executing Shift5’s DoD Marketing Strategy, while ensuring alignment with the global marketing strategy, business goals, and revenue targets. You operate at the intersection of DoD marketing efforts and Shift5’s broader marketing, PR, branding and communications strategy. We are one brand with customers who identify with different voices.
We are looking for an expert at targeting key partners in the DoD market, informing sell-to and sell-through motions and identifying, developing, and maintaining critical marketing partnerships across solutions and alliances, channel, service providers, and integrators. You’ll engage with partners to develop joint messaging and content, identify and execute campaigns, events, and other activities to influence target personas.
You’ll collaborate with the Senior Director, Federal Engagement & Public Affairs to understand Sales needs, target accounts, challenges, and opportunities, influence specific DoD personas within our overall addressable market, and support the Sales Team with compelling and effective content, campaigns, and other marketing activities. You will work closely with Government Affairs to ensure our strategy and objectives are complimentary across the government space and partner on events and joint opportunities to support Sales; work cross functionally with our product and engineering team to understand the full suite of our platform capabilities, and cross collaborate with our global PR Team to drive awareness and education of key DoD-specific messages to the press in the form of thought leadership, earned/paid media, and award opportunities.

In this role you will be expected to:Â
- Work with the VP of Marketing to develop and execute the DoD Marketing Strategy
- Drive continued growth of awareness, demand, and pipeline in alignment with company business goals and ARR targets
- Develop core DoD messaging framework to include tailored, customer- and persona-specific messaging, positioning, differentiators, point of view (POV), proof points, descriptors, boilerplate, elevator pitch, taglines, and core product capabilities, features, and benefits.
- Partner with the Senior Director, Federal Engagement & Public Affairs to understand DoD personas and develop effective strategies to drive demand, build the funnel, and move prospects through the buyer’s journey.
- Work in partnership with Sales to inform the DoD marketing strategy and provide seamless marketing support focused on both short- and long-term marketing initiatives and sales needs.
- Create targeted content to drive awareness including web copy, email copy, infographics, solution briefs, bylines, op-eds, white papers, articles, blogs, podcasts, and other prospect- and customer-facing materials to build awareness, drive demand generation and arm Sales.
- Drive public sector awareness and manage public sector PR agency relationship to include clear goals, objectives, as well as monthly and quarterly metrics.
- Develop strategy for both inbound and outbound campaigns specific to DoD targets and track progress of lead follow up, conversion, influence, and pipeline volume and acceleration
- Develop strategy for robust multi-touch and multi-channel programs, campaigns, and activities that capture top-of-funnel prospects and progress them through the funnel and buyer’s journey.
- Implement and leverage analytics and metrics to report on monthly and quarterly goals, making adjustments based on results and variable Sales needs
- Develop and report on all Federal marketing tactics and activities monthly/quarterly/annually
- Drive marketing strategy in partnership with cross functional teams across the company to include PR, GA, Product/Engineering, HR, Executive Leadership, and Sales.
- Manage requirements with creative services department in support of all Federal marketing activities and content
- Maintain a keen understanding of industry trends affecting prospects and customers and leverage trends to make strategic recommendations
- Plan, execute, and ensure onsite management of marketing and sales activities and events
- Manage Federal Marketing budget, plan marketing investments accordingly by quarter, and coordinate spend and resources required across the marketing team and other departments as appropriate
- Travel as necessary to execute marketing initiatives (Up to 30% travel)
- Ensure alignment across all marketing investments, activities, tactics, strategies, goals and objectives
- Drive results consistently, adapts to shifting priorities, and manages workload effectively.
- Collaborate effectively with the Marketing Team to inform broader strategies and tactics such as digital, email, and advertising campaigns, PR strategies, GTM motions, launch campaigns, nurture campaigns, and all other marketing objectives.
We’re looking for someone who is/has:
- Bachelor's Degree required
- 10+ years of marketing experience with 5 of those years in the Federal marketing space
- Experience in online and digital marketing, including understanding of the latest B2B and B2G customer engagement tactics
- Working knowledge of Salesforce/Pardot, or other CRM/marketing automation tools required
- Excellent oral, written, communication, and presentation skills
- Project management experience with ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects
- Strong relationship building skills
- Hands-on attitude with all tactical marketing elements
- Must be outcome-oriented and capable of operating in a fast-pace environment
- Ability to be adapt to changing prioritiesÂ
