Position Overview: We seek a Director of Finance to oversee Mursion’s financial planning and analysis function. The ideal candidate will have a significant background in financial planning, forecasting, business analysis, and management of economic systems. This person should also be highly analytical, have a natural curiosity to identify financial and operational trends, and leverage insights to drive Mursion to achieve its financial goals. This role will be a crucial member of the Finance team and supports financial planning, business modeling, forecasting, and management reporting activities with the corporate controller and the business (budget owners). This role works cross-functionally with several departments within the company.
This is an FT, salaried, and fully remote position reporting to the Chief Financial Officer. The compensation package is a $120-150K base salary + discretionary company bonus and benefits based on applied experience, geographic location, and other factors identified by the hiring committee.
Responsibilities:
- Manage ongoing full P&L and Cash Flow planning and forecasting, working cross-functionally with department leaders to manage evolving spending needs in alignment with Mursion’s financial goals
- Provide monthly Budget vs. Actual by department and analysis of topline performance metrics (bookings, revenue)
- Analyze and identify spending and revenue trends, and partner with CFO to drive actionable insights to manage Mursion towards its financial goals.
- Partner with Sales and Client Success to ensure constant visibility into short and long-term bookings and revenue forecasts. Responsible for reporting the final bookings number each month for period-end close.
- Manage and report the revenue schedule in accordance with GAAP and Mursion’s revenue recognition policy. Responsible for the accuracy of the revenue schedule and monthly updates to the revenue forecast.
- Own the FP&A system (Jedox) and ensure complete and accurate data feeding into the system from Quickbooks and other related financial systems.
- Maintain client-level financial reporting to guide key management decisions around client renewals, pricing, and delivery model.
- Collaborate with the department leads to develop, track, and review financial KPIs; be a point of reference for Sales, Marketing, Ops, and Finance around these KPIs.
- Proactively identify, develop, and implement process and systems improvements to achieve revenue reporting and forecast efficiencies. Maximize the use of systems and output through streamlined processes and ongoing evaluation of enhancement opportunities through new features and add-ons.
- Partner with the Accounting team to ensure complete visibility of bookings, invoicing, and A/R activity. Maintain critical and ongoing collaboration to provide visibility into cash inflows.
- As requested, support or lead ad hoc projects, analyses, and presentations.
- Support the monthly accounting close process as needed.
- Collaborate with the broader Finance, Accounting, and Business Intelligence team to achieve department goals and objectives.
Qualifications:
- 8+ years of experience in Financial Planning and Analysis
- Highly analytical, with proven capabilities in data-intensive financial analysis backed by strong financial modeling skills in Excel.
- Significant experience managing work in technical accounting/finance systems. Experience with Quickbooks, Jedox, and HubSpot preferred
- Proficiency with financial statement analysis and forecasting, including an understanding of GAAP and Statutory Accounting principles and the ability to communicate with experts.
- Experience managing and maintaining complex driver-based financial forecast divisions or otherwise complex business structures.
- Experience working with revenue, client success, and product engineering teams
- Strong verbal and written presentation skills, including communicating complex financial concepts and tailoring key messages and presentation styles to diverse audiences.
- Experience developing board and investor reporting, striking the right balance of quantitative detail and commentary
- Approaches problem-solving with natural intellectual curiosity, open-mindedness, and comfort with ambiguity.
- Proven ability to execute projects quickly and has a “get things done” mentality.
