Position Summary:

The Director of Design is responsible for managing the Global Educator Network (GEN) and advancing our strategy in relation to innovation in design. The Director of Design will grow Duke CE's portfolio of solutions and partnerships to reflect the latest content areas, learning technologies and methodologies in executive leadership development, positioning us for the future.

This position is also responsible for driving growth and managing a portfolio of client business, including operational responsibility for a team of client-facing employees within their region.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Invigorates the North American Global Educator Network (GEN) and Methods Catalog
    • Leverages centralized system(s) to streamline and optimize internal accessibility and visibility of GEN and Methods for project teams
    • Sources emerging GEN talent aligned to diversity and equity initiatives (and to create a balanced portfolio of talent by topic/solution area)
    • Builds relationships with existing GEN members and renegotiates contracts as needed
    • Target KPI : 3 new diverse educator options per quarter
    • Target KPI : 3 new methods providers / potential partners per quarter
    • Reduce External Educator / Provider costs by 10%
  • Champions innovation in instructional design and solution architecture
    • Target KPI : 4 new or updated proprietary Duke CE methods per year
    • Target KPI: meets with PD community weekly to ensure new faculty, new innovations are implemented.
  • Owns and manages a portfolio of client business
    • Owns overall accountability for portfolio success
    • Accountable for project success and quality across portfolio of clients
    • Drives the commercial performance of client projects
    • Builds and negotiates project rates and budgets
    • Target KPI : $500,000+ per year
  • Leads efforts to grow the business
    • Responsible for contributing to regional, organizational, and individual revenue and profit targets
    • Identifies and develops new business with both existing clients as well as new prospects
    • Participates in business development activities through contributions to proposal-writing process and pitches
    • Drives the acquisition of new clients from own network, office and group marketing efforts
    • Represents Duke CE at conferences or events as needed
    • Target KPI: Assists BD team with lead prospecting, and proposal writing, attends all meetings.
    • Target KPI: Assists MDs/CDs proposal writing as needed, attends all meetings.
    • Target KPI: Creates 1-2 referrals (client leads) each month (24 per year) from the faculty network.
  • Onboards new educators and tracks their performance to ensure consistency and accurate representation of the Duke CE brand
  • Acts as a thought leader within Duke CE CFT to share industry knowledge, trends, and innovative approaches to solution design, methodology, and technology
  • Creates proprietary Duke CE designs & develops other methods based on specific learning outcomes
  • Understands client business context and challenges and how those relate to leadership development
  • Designs collaboratively with clients, utilizing the full range of Duke CE experience and resources

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in a customer service or client relationship management role; preference given to candidates with experience in education (higher education or executive education), consulting or human capital industry.
  • Instructional design skills and executive consulting skills required
  • Proven experience in successful client relationship management
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience negotiating rates and contract terms
  • Able to travel domestically and internationally
