Company Overview Watermill Express is a leading provider of refill kiosks, offering affordable, sustainable, and safe drinking water and ice through a convenient drive-up format. The Company operates and franchises nearly 1,300 kiosks across 8 states, predominantly across the West Coast and Sunbelt regions. The company maintains rigorous standards across all aspects of its operations, from the quality of water and ice to the appearance and functionality of its refill kiosks. Each unit is maintained and sanitized daily to ensure a consistently positive experience for customers and landlords. One of Watermill Express's key initiatives is to encourage customers to refill their own reusable water bottles, not only saving them money but also contributing to environmental sustainability by reducing carbon emissions and preventing single-use plastic water bottles from ending up in landfills. To date, the company has prevented nearly 15 billion single-use plastic water bottles from polluting the nation's landfills, demonstrating its commitment to environmental responsibility.
Summary We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Director of Human Resources to lead our HR department. The Director of HR will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of talent management, including recruitment, employee relations, performance management, training and development, compensation and benefits, HR compliance, and strategic HR planning for a multi-unit retail business with ~400 full and/or part-time employees in 17 markets across 8 states.Β
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and implement HR strategies and initiatives aligned with the overall business objectives of the company.
- Oversee the recruitment and onboarding process, ensuring the hiring of top talent and a positive candidate experience.
- Manage employee relations, including conflict resolution, disciplinary actions, and grievance procedures.
- Maintain organizational work structure by updating job requirements and job descriptions for all positions. Guides management actions by preparing, updating, and recommending human resources policies and procedures.
- Maintains printed and digital human resources records.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable labor laws and regulations.
- Maintain compensation programs by conducting periodic pay surveys, scheduling, conducting job evaluations, studying and assessing benefit needs and trends, and recommending compensation and benefit programs to management.
- Administer annual wage and performance appraisals.Β
- Conduct open enrollment meetings locally and for all markets to ensure that all employees are well informed.
- Communicate with and assist newly eligible employees with benefits enrollments.
- Partner with local and national managers by coaching on supervisory skills, reinforcing expectations and improved performance.
- Manage captive insurance policy and workers compensation, liability, and auto claims for fleet of 200+ vehicles.
- Advise management on needed actions.
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Individual Contributor β Has a role of a member of a formal team, but does not have supervisor responsibility. May supervise contract workers as needed. Given current company growth projections, the department is expected to expand as growth targets are achieved and the ideal candidate would have leadership capacity.

Education and/or Experience
Bachelorβs degree and 5-7 years in a human resources generalist role or related field. SHRM certification is desirable, but not required. Proficiency in applicant tracking system (ATS), HRIS systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee may occasionally move up to 35 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.
Travel up to 10% may be required along with the ability to work and travel during irregular hours as needed.
