Director of Internal Communications
Job Description
POLITICO is seeking a Director of Internal Communications to develop, execute, and oversee our internal communication strategy. This is a new position at POLITICO, and the ideal candidate will be empowered to develop a fresh approach to internal communications and develop a plan in partnership with key stakeholders including the Vice President of Marketing and Communications, CEO, COO, Chief Talent Officer, and Editor-in-Chief.
Effective communication builds trust through greater transparency and increases employee engagement. This role will work closely with counterparts on POLITICO's Talentteams in US and Europe to communicate frequently and clearly withmore than1000employees globally. The role will initially focus on creating and publishing a regular global newsletter in partnership with our teams in Europe, partnering with C-Suite and Senior executives on communications strategy and delivery to ensure that key messages and initiatives are clearly communicated across teams, developing an agenda and content for company town halls, and ensuring that the leadership team's priorities and updates are cascading across teams throughout the publication. This critical role will report directly to the Vice President of Marketing and Communications and will partner with the Director of Communications in the U.S. (external facing) to ensure consistency and alignment.
What You'll Need:
- 7-10 years of experience in internal and executive communications, preferably with a background in public affairs, politics, media, or the agency space.
- Experience in planning, creating, and managing regular communications for large groups or organizations.
- Experience in managing high level executives and/or elected officials.
- Expert knowledge of internal communications best practices across North America. Experience with employees in European geographies a plus.
- A keen understanding of the political news cycle and interest in the political landscape.
- Excellent written and communication skills with employees of all levels, including the ability to shape messaging and storytelling, listen to key stakeholders to understand key messages, and to ensure that written and verbal communications are engaging to employees.
- Exceptional time management and multitasking skills, ability to take and give feedback, strong project management and problem solving skills, ability to be trusted with sensitive information, and an individual who thrives working well under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Experience and/or proficiency with internal communications tools and software, including Mailchimp, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, PowerPoint, SharePoint.
- An entrepreneurial mindset and demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced and evolving global environment.
What You'll Do:
- Help us build an effective internal communications operation from the ground up.
- Create engaging internal content, including a global newsletter in coordination with our teams in Europe.
- Support executives and leaders across POLITICO on achieving their communications objectives, both internally and externally, including but not limited to: Developing compelling and thoughtful talking points for meetings, creative presentations, speechwriting, town halls, and other communications.
- Grow employee understanding of strategic business initiatives and translate leadership team objectives in a manner that results in culture engagement from employees.
- Developing compelling and innovative ways to consistently engage employees and tell POLITICO's story.
- Collaborative with internal partners across all functions to help devise creative solutions to help effectively cascade communications, provide timely corporate and employee updates and announcements., and more.
- Partner with the VP of Marketing and Communications, the Director of Communications, and our communications team in Europe frequently on various projects and initiatives.
