• Lead a team of engineers and technicians to achieve technically challenging outcomes in custom LED component development
• Retain, recruit, hire, onboard and train team members to align capabilities with the needs and goals of the organization
• Be a subject matter expert to the team to help solve LED performance, longevity, or cost challenges
• Design and drive experiments to advance the performance of LED products
• Coordinate the analysis and reporting of data to the team and senior leadership
• Work closely with the Reliability Lead to design and execute effective validation testing and reporting
• Establish robust processes for tracking and supporting multiple complex R&D projects to achieve desired outcomes on time and on budget
• Establish strong working relationships with LED chip, materials and assembly vendors

• BS, MS, or PhD in Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in LED device development
• Minimum of 5 years in a management/leadership role with direct reports
• The ideal candidate will be very hands on and excited by complete ownership of the LED product development process from cradle to grave
• Familiarity with optical and electrical measurements using LEDs, lasers, spectrophotometers, integrating spheres, and power supplies
• Ability to interpret and analyze performance parameters of LED packages
• Familiarity with computational and statistical analysis tools such as MATLAB, JMP, or python
• Familiarity with merchant GaN/InGaN LED chips of all types, illumination-grade phosphor systems, and silicone encapsulant materials
• “Self-starter” mentality and ability to keep up with a fast development pace
• Ability to manage multiple complex projects from R&D/Concept development through transition to partner manufacturing
• Excellent communication skills
