Job Description

Note: We support 100% remote work for applicants who reside in the following states: California, Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Massachusetts, New York, Oregon, Texas and Washington.

Textio embraces diversity and seeks candidates who will contribute to a climate that supports persons of all identities and backgrounds. We strongly encourage individuals from underrepresented and/or marginalized identities to apply.

Textio's mission is to build software that creates understanding between people. Our category-defining augmented writing platform has already transformed the way that thousands of companies communicate.

2021 was the strongest year in Textio history. We shipped several new products and doubled the size of our customer base. 2022 promises to be even more exciting: more new products coming to market, an ambitious revenue plan, and substantial team growth. We're looking for a Director of Legal who is a business minded lawyer that takes the time to understand business objectives to strategically and effectively balance legal risks in advising the business.

What you'll be doing:
  • You will be responsible for all customer and vendor contracts including coordination across information security and privacy.
  • Negotiating and drafting B2B SaaS agreements with customers, prospects, and vendors; advising on contract interpretation and legal aspects of business strategy.
  • Expanding the technology infrastructure to support customer growth and leading the deal desk function.
  • Acting as a strategic partner with Revenue leaders to ensure that we support revenue growth while mitigating Textio's risk; ensure that the sales and customer success teams understand legal issues and can discuss them with customers.
  • Developing, implementing, and supporting the continuous improvement of standard form agreements, legal processes, policies and trainings.
  • Partner with the People team to create standard responses for policy related questions (both common policies/practices in the US and EU/UK and Federal/State contracts).
  • Provide in-house support on a variety of legal issues. This role primarily supports inbound and outbound commercial negotiations. Legal support for other functions is possible depending on bandwidth and experience.
This is a great role for you if you...
  • Enjoy developing and scaling efficient legal processes for B2B SaaS companies; you are also experienced working with external legal counsel.
  • Have experience working on revenue-generating cloud services, software, and/or other technology contracts and being responsible for deals from inception to close.
  • Have a Law Degree from an accredited law school and are admitted to practice law in at least one state; you have relevant legal B2B SaaS experience; solid understanding of GDPR and privacy regulations.
  • Are just as good at developing legal strategy as you are at rolling up your sleeves and performing with clear goals, precision, speed, and accountability.
  • Are adept at navigating the intricacies of working cross-functionally with a wide range of teams and senior leaders in a fast-paced environment where the ability to build trust, influence and relationships is critical to success.
  • Don't just hold team members accountable, you also coach them on how to be more successful; you are dedicated to creating healthy and diverse teams.
  • Lead with curiosity first; you want to understand all parts of Textio's business, and you are passionate about helping others succeed.
Benefits:

We are looking to build a truly diverse, equitable, and inclusive marketing team. We have a number of outstanding benefits to support that.

  • We are a fully distributed team. Without a central office, everyone’s on an equal footing wherever you’re based. Our positions are open to residents of California, Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Massachusetts, New York, Oregon, Texas, and Washington.
  • We offer flexible schedules and unlimited time off. Take vacations to recharge and work the schedule that makes sense for you. We’re about long-term growth and success, so that means working sustainably.
  • We provide outstanding health care, dental, and vision coverage for you and your family.
  • Paid time to volunteer at non-profits. If you volunteer enough, we’ll match your hours with donations.
  • On demand mentoring with Bravely.

The base salary range for this role’s listed level is currently $190,000-$225,000. Grade level and salary ranges are determined through interviews and a review of education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant, equity with other team members, and alignment with market data.
