We are seeking an experienced Director of Legal Operations to join the legal team at Fivetran. As the Director of Legal Operations, you will have a key leadership role within the department and report directly to the General Counsel.
In addition to a proven ability to lead a team, we’re looking for a generalist who can roll up their sleeves and take a hands-on approach in supporting the legal department.
What You'll Do
- Team Alignment: Align the legal ops team to act as a support pillar to the legal team and Fivetran as a whole.
- Strategic Planning: Execute the department’s short- and long-term strategic roadmap, translating department goals and priorities into strategic plans, partnering with members of the department to drive, track and report progress and generating consensus from stakeholders where needed. Create and maintain processes to improve the legal team's efficiency and effectiveness.
- Contracts Management: Take day-to-day lead on contracts management processes, working closely with Fivetran’s Revenue Operations, Commercial Legal and Deal Desk teams to ensure an organized contract lifecycle process and up to date processes and policies across our sales teams.
- Leadership Expertise: Provide timely advice and counsel to leadership, deploying your project and program management experience to engage cross-functional teammates or third-party vendors to achieve desired business outcomes, turning ambiguity into opportunity and order.
- Knowledge Management: Develop and maintain a comprehensive knowledge management system to store and organize legal documents, templates, and resources. Implement best practices for knowledge sharing and collaboration within the legal team.
- Change Management: Lead change management initiatives related to legal operations, such as process improvements, technology implementations, and organizational restructuring. Take the lead on company-wide communications regarding legal department policies and processes, helping communicate up to date information to our global employee base.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process optimization, cost reduction, and efficiency gains within the legal department. Implement a culture of continuous improvement and drive initiatives to enhance operational effectiveness.
- Stakeholder Management: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Finance, HR, IT, and other business units, to align legal operations with broader organizational goals. Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners.
- Budgeting: Manage budget for Fivetran's legal team and vendor management for Fivetran's outside counsel; lead outside counsel engagement process.
- Procurement Assistance: Assist with the management of procurement processes and vendor review.
- IT Collaboration: Work with Fivetran’s Security & IT team on records retention policies, software implementation, software vendor tracking and more.
- Onboarding Management: Further develop and manage the onboarding process for new legal team members, ensuring that they have the necessary resources and training to succeed in their roles.
- Legal Technology and Innovation: Identify and implement technology solutions to streamline legal processes, improve efficiency, and enhance the overall effectiveness of the legal team. Stay updated on the latest legal technology trends and innovations.
Skills We're Looking For
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in legal operations or related roles, preferably in a fast-paced technology or SaaS company.
- Proven experience in managing legal operations at a senior level, including leading a team and driving operational excellence.
- Strong knowledge of legal processes, contracts management, and legal technology solutions.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex legal concepts to both legal and non-legal stakeholders.
- Demonstrated expertise in multiple legal/subject matter areas, with the ability to provide guidance and support across various legal domains.
- Experience in developing and executing strategic plans for a legal department, aligning department goals with broader organizational objectives.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex issues, weigh pros and cons, and make sound judgments.
- Proven track record of driving process improvements, optimizing work processes, and implementing efficiency gains within a legal department.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong leadership skills, with the ability to cultivate innovation, develop talent, and drive results.
- Experience in change management, including leading initiatives such as process improvements, technology implementations, and organizational restructuring.
- Familiarity with knowledge management systems and best practices for knowledge sharing and collaboration within a legal team.
- Strong project and program management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to leverage data and metrics to drive decision-making and process improvements.
- Experience in budget management, vendor management, and procurement processes.
- Knowledge of legal and industry trends, with a commitment to continuous learning and staying updated on relevant developments.
