The Director of Mergers & Acquisitions leads the regional acquisition strategy & execution for the Optum Health Mid-Atlantic Region (OH Mid-A), one of the fastest growing areas of Optum Health. The position will lead the identification, evaluation, and execution of strategic opportunities within the region, reporting to the regional Chief Strategy Officer and working closely with other executive leadership to drive growth through acquisition and partnerships aligned to the region's long-term strategy. The role requires an entrepreneurial mindset and a deep understanding of medical groups and managed care, strong financial acumen, and exceptional interpersonal and negotiation skills.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the regional CSO and CEO on a comprehensive M&A strategy.
- Matrixed work with UHG Corporate Development on major acquisition targets and regional prioritization and valuation modeling.
- Identify, develop, and maintain a pipeline of potential acquisition targets. Build and maintain strong relationships in-region with potential target leadership, investment bankers, advisors, and other stakeholders.
- Prepare and assess financial, qualitative and valuation analyses.
- Lead due diligence process, including financial analysis, legal review, and operational assessments. Coordinate with regional, national, and corporate teams to assess risks and identify opportunities.
- Negotiate terms and structure deals in collaboration with corp dev, finance, and regional leadership.
- Partner with integration teams to drive rapid, seamless transition and realize synergies.
- Execute special initiatives for the region

Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years of M&A experience with a Transaction Advisory Services group, corporate development, investment banking or private equity firm
- Experience working on multiple live acquisitions simultaneously across the entire deal lifecycle while signing and closing multiple transactions
- Experience developing financial forecasts and valuation models for M&A
- Experience working in a team environment on a project basis with the mental agility to adapt and make progress in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Proven track record of successfully lead and closing complex M&A transactions in healthcare
- Advanced Excel skills to synthesize and organize raw data into meaningful business insights
- Solid understanding of core accounting and finance concepts to convert financial information into a working discounted cash flow model
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate a business to understand its business model, strategy and understand its key operational and financial performance drivers
- Travel and work schedule flexibility (50%)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or Math
- 10+ years of M&A experience with a Transaction Advisory Services group, corporate development, investment banking or private equity firm
- Experience closing medical group transactions on either the buy or sell side
- Location in the Optum Health Mid-Atlantic region (North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, D.C., Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, West Virginia

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
