THE ROLE

Luxury is a strategic growth division at Sotheby’s. It includes Jewellery, Watches, Wine & Spirits, Design, Books, Fashion and Collectibles, and is expanding beyond traditional auction to Private Sales and E-Commerce.

This role is responsible for supporting the growth of Luxury. Under the direction of the Co-Worldwide Heads of Marketing, they will work closely with the business leads throughout Sotheby’s, including Chairmen, Heads of Departments and the Managing Director for Luxury to articulate our brand positioning and establish an agreed-upon approach to Marketing through all of our available channels: web site, e-mail, catalogues, magazine, events, digital marketing and social media (including WeChat).

In particular, they will be responsible for overseeing the cross-category initiatives, namely the Luxury campaign weeks. In collaboration with Partnerships, they will also lead the cultivation of relationships with brands and influencers to broaden our audience and engage new consumers.

The role will provide strategic leadership for the Luxury Marketing Managers. They will have three direct reports, approve all associated marketing plans, monitor execution and impact against KPIs, and continually modify the approach based on learnings.

As a key member of the Marketing team the role must ensure alignment with global counterparts, the wider Marketing team of Preferred & Events, Editorial & Video, Creative, Digital Marketing as well as working in tandem with Marketing Lead of Fine Arts


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create a global overview of the Luxury business across all channels.
  • Manage all Single Owner or Cross-Category Themed Sales.
  • Develop and present a strategic marketing plan and associated annual budget ensuring that key learnings from previous initiatives are incorporated.
  • Create and present quarterly reports.
  • Oversee resource allocation to drive brand equity and deliver the maximum return on investment.
  • Develop compelling marketing plans with the Luxury Marketing Managers for business-getting proposals originating in London.
  • Manage the performance of the Luxury Marketing Managers in London setting expectations, goals and measures.
  • Provide regular and timely updates to the Co-Worldwide Heads of Marketing and other key internal stakeholders as required.

IDEAL EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES

  • 10+ years of experience in marketing ideally gained in a consumer facing luxury retail or service business agency
  • Passion about luxury and knowledgeable about the entire eco-system that supports it
  • At least three years in a leadership role
  • Have a balance of strategic and creative thinking with strong analytical and presentation skills
  • Experience in planning and evaluating cross-channel marketing programs
  • They must also be energetic and outgoing, with the ability to reach out and engage with a broad range of colleagues and external partners
  • A self-motivated team player who is well organized with a can-do attitude

The proposed base salary for this position ranges from $135,000-$210,000. In addition to base salary successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus, as well as a competitive benefits package. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, licensure or certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered.
