Cortica is looking for a Director of Payroll to join its growing team!  

As the Director of Payroll, you will play a crucial leadership role within the Finance team, with significant responsibility for overseeing the organization's payroll processes and procedures. This position represents an engaging opportunity to shape and influence the payroll infrastructure within a high-growth, innovative company still in its early stages of expansion. What will you do? 

  • Oversee the processing of all payroll transactions, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in salary disbursement to employees. 
  • Develop, implement, and manage the organization's payroll policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. 
  • Regularly review and audit payroll data, identifying discrepancies or errors and taking corrective action as necessary. 
  • Manage payroll tax filings, including quarterly and year-end reconciliations and W-2 issuance, ensuring all tax obligations are met in a timely manner. 
  • Collaborate with HR and Finance teams to resolve payroll-related issues, provide data for financial reporting, and ensure smooth integration between payroll and other systems. 
  • Direct the preparation of payroll-related documents, such as employment verification letters, income statements, and reports for senior management. 
  • Keep abreast of changes in payroll and taxation laws and regulations, adapting policies and procedures as necessary to maintain compliance. 
  • Lead, mentor, and manage the payroll team, fostering a positive work environment that encourages continuous improvement and high performance. 
  • Evaluate current payroll processes, identifying areas for improvement and recommending innovative solutions to enhance efficiency and accuracy. 
  • Lead the implementation of new payroll systems, such as UKG, ensuring seamless transition, system optimization, and training for relevant personnel. 

We’d love to hear from you if: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, or related field; advanced degree or CPA preferred. 
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in payroll, with at least 5 years in a leadership role managing a team. 
  • Demonstrated expertise in multi-state payroll, including understanding the complexities and legal requirements of processing payroll across different states and jurisdictions 
  • Comprehensive understanding of payroll processing, tax procedures, and wage laws. 
  • Proficiency in payroll software systems and experience with HRIS and ERP systems. 
  • Exceptional knowledge of federal and state payroll tax laws and latest payroll practices. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. 
  • Exceptional leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to lead a diverse team. 
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively liaise with employees, senior management, and external parties. 
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in preparing and entering financial and payroll information. 
  • Strong organizational skills, and the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

The base pay range for this opening is $128,520 to $173,880. According to your skill level, relevant experience, education level, and location, you will receive compensation that fits appropriately within the range.
