Director of Product
Job Description
The Director of Product is a senior leadership role focused on driving product vision and strategy. They own an operational P&L for product, define the market opportunities, sell the vision to leadership, deliver tangible/measurable results, communicate the solutions to the market, and help craft organizational objectives both short and long term. The Director Product works with other senior leaders across the organization ensuring that there is constant alignment and transparency. They are thought leaders in product innovation and have a proven track record of success. The primary responsibility of the Director of Product is to build high performing teams, create a culture of empowerment, drive product excellence, and position Werner as an innovator. They are responsible for all product resources including product management, product marketing, and product design and must draw from a diverse background of experience to drive positive outcomes

Responsibilities:
- Clearly understand the industry and industry trends that will drive future innovation in transportation and logistics
- Own the outcomes, define distinct competencies and outline how to win in the broad market
- Understand the competitive landscape and market fit for new products/services that may be developed
- Define the segments and distribution strategy of the product portfolio for internal and external customers
- Build a high performing team recruiting, teaching, and retaining the best talent in the industry
- Clearly articulate the value proposition, vision and strategy of products under their leadership
- Serve as an evangelist, both internally and externally, for the industry and products they lead
- Create the customer experience that differentiates Werner by solving pain points and unmet needs better than anyone else in the market
- Have a deep understanding of exceptional user experiences and how to create beautiful design interactions leveraging modern technologies
- Develop business relationships with partners and evaluate potential investments for buy vs. build
- Mitigate risk and place bets on high value opportunities using continual discovery and validation techniques
- Create a culture of empowerment within their team, built on trust and transparency with clear expectations of ownership and accountability
- Have technical and financial aptitude to create models for success partnering with engineering and finance teams
- Define product marketing strategy and own programs to successfully launch and grow products
- Drive product innovation and excellence through strategic vision and planning activities
- Create appropriate budget and staffing plans to support their investments
- Take calculated risks to leverage emerging technologies through continuous experimentation
- Deliver superior product and business results aligned to the key objectives of organization
- Other duties assigned by supervisory personnel
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience is required, Master's Degree is preferred
- 3+ years of previous experience working in and leading product teams
- Previous technical experience, while not required is advised
- Previous transportation experience is highly desired
- Self-starter with a hyper focus on KPI's such as adoption, revenue, retention, compliance, savings, etc.
- Curiosity, creativity and willingness to break out of constraints or the status quo
- Willingness to take risks, experiment and prototype in a rapid fashion
- Strong leadership and excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong problem-solving, organizational and multi-tasking skills
- Ability to make decisions and priority calls based on currently available information
- Great people skills and ability to collaborate and successfully work in teams
- Ensures expected outcomes are understood and measurable
- Strong analytical skills and ability to run data queries to produce product related KPI reports and metrics
- Ability to work independently and without supervision
- Ability to learn quickly and adapt to constantly changing industry and company requirements
- Ability to learn and understand technical concepts and tools necessary for their specific job duties
- Time management skills and proven ability to work on time-sensitive deliverables
