Overview

We are excited to be looking for a Director of Product Development to join our team in Brooklyn, NY. Reporting to our VP of Merchandising, you will oversee product development across all categories (from design to launch!) and work across departments to translate design and business strategies into finished products. You will also lead and mentor our incredible Manager of Product Development.

This role is based in Brooklyn, NY, and we have a 2 days in/3 days remote schedule.

What you’ll do

  • Lay the groundwork and create the process roadmap for a best-in-class product development function and team.
  • Create and maintain development calendars and ensure key milestones are met for on-time launches; apprise and resolve calendar variances as needed.
  • Lead team in driving the sampling process with manufacturing partners to ensure accuracy in execution and monitor, track and report on all requested protos and ensure seasonal calendar dates are achieved.
  • Collaborate with Design and provide options for components, techniques, and costs that are on brand, within cost, and in compliance with performance standards.
  • Track and communicate cost and margin updates with an understanding of cost engineering; identify opportunities and recommend enhancements, construction, and material options to elevate the brand and meet margin requirements.
  • Partner with Operations, Quality, and Production to facilitate the hand-off from development to production.
  • Build strong relationships with key suppliers and sourcing partners; communicate with vendors regularly throughout the development process to ensure finished goods meet our planned schedules and quality standards.

We're looking for someone who brings

  • 10+ years of experience in product development, production, or sourcing; home goods experience is preferred!
  • 4+ years of people leadership experience; proven track record of building and leading a team.
  • Experience in an entrepreneurial or startup environment.
  • Experience working on multiple product categories.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-channel environment and be comfortable with change.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
  • Experience managing internal and external relationships in a global environment.
  • Ability to travel internationally to factories.
