Director of Product Development

Position Overview:

As the Director of Product Development, you will play a critical role in creating strategy, leading and overseeing the product development lifecycle, from ideation to launch. You will be responsible for driving innovation, managing cross-functional teams, and ensuring the successful execution of product development strategies. This role requires a combination of strategic thinking, technical expertise, the ability to develop collaborative relationships with other departments and strong leadership skills to bring innovative and high-quality products to market.

Key Responsibilities:

• Take complete ownership for product formulations in partnership supply chain, manufacturing, sales and marketing.
• Develop and articulate the product vision, story, strategy, and roadmap aligned with the company's overall vision and objectives.
• Manage the cost of goods (COGs) and margins and make recommendations on formula changes to align to pricing strategies.
• Review current portfolio of products to identify opportunities for improvement (ingredients, formula, costs, innovation).
• Develop and manage project timelines and milestones across all product development stages ensuring efficient and effective delivery of products.
• Clearly and simply communicate product benefits and features.
• Ensure product standards are followed (safe, effective, story, price, taste, & clean).
• Stay ahead on new ingredients, market trends, and new product concepts related to product categories to offer growth opportunities.
• Conduct regular reviews and assessments to identify and address potential risks, issues, and bottlenecks, ensuring projects stay on track.
• Train and promote all products, even ones you did not personally develop.
• Lead and collaborate with a product advisory group to leverage the skills of the group for the benefit of the overall product offering.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent work experience required.
• Proven experience (7+ years) in product management, with a focus on product development, in a health and wellness organization that focuses on weight loss and weight management.
• Clear understanding of dietary supplements.
• Demonstrated experience in meeting timelines and innovation despite obstacles.
• Strong leadership and people management skills, with a track record of successfully leading and developing high-performing teams.
• Deep understanding of product development methodologies, agile frameworks, and best practices
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and senior stakeholders.
• Proven experience in successfully launching and scaling products in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
• Familiarity with industry trends in health and wellness
• Results-oriented, entrepreneurial minded with a focus on achieving business goals while maintaining high standards of product quality.
