Director R&D Operations and Program Management

Location: Salt Lake City, UT (Hybrid)


​The Director, R&D Operations & Program Management is an energetic and collaborative leader who thrives on working with others to deliver world-class products, drive positive change, and lead execution to differentiate NICE's SaaS platform. As a key member of the leadership team and a bridge builder, she/he serves as the organizational mouthpiece for key projects, milestones and processes and is accountable for continual organizational improvement in the areas of process, communication, and project governance.
Major Functions/Responsibility

  • Program/Project Management: Coordinate and lead execution of the various projects within the R&D department, including setting timelines, securing resources, and ensuring that projects stay on track.  This is a leadership role that owns delivery and manages to outcomes rather than activities.
  • Resource Allocation: Collate information to propose budgets, license usage and headcount assignments based on priority, potential impact, and available resources.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Facilitate collaboration between R&D, Product, Sales, and Services departments, to ensure that R&D efforts align with the overall goals and strategies of the organization.
  • Process Improvement: Identify and implement improvements in R&D processes to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and accelerate product development cycles.  Act as key process owner, holding leaders accountable to documented actions and deliverables.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that R&D activities adhere to regulations and standards, including leadership on internal and external audits.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks associated with R&D projects, which could include technical challenges, market uncertainties, or regulatory hurdles.
  • Data Driver: Measure what matters including organization KPIs, take actions based on what is measured and drive effective change in the R&D organization.
  • Executive-Level Presenter: Own executive communication to ensure that leaders are never surprised, that outcomes are being achieved, and that proper corrective actions are being taken to ensure project success.
  • Agile Coaching:  Own coaching and training on agile practices and ALM tooling for the R&D organization.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Ensure that all R&D activities are well-documented, providing regular updates to senior management on progress, milestones, and outcomes.
  • Build Relationships: Build relationships of trust with peers and organization leaders to meet delivery objectives and remove barriers.
  • Product Knowledge:  Know the business, its products and customer.


Required Education, Experience, and Specific Job-Related Skills

Education Requirement:

  • ​Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field or equivalent work experience required.
  • Technical or industry certifications are preferred in addition to the required education/experience.

Experience Requirement:

  • 10+ years program management experience using formal techniques and principles
  • 10+ years filling a key role in a commercial software development team
  • 10+ years working with geographically disparate, matrixed development teams
  • 5+ years leading a high performing team while building leadership skills of team members
  • 4+ years of demonstrated success defining and launching products
  • Proven experience presenting and managing project plans globally and integrating multiple teams to plan, execute, track and communicate software issues and resolution
  • Ability to work on complex initiatives and drive project closure with little-to-no outside supervision
  • Exceptional presentation, documentation and communication skills to all stakeholder levels
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple people and simultaneous projects in a fast-paced, iterative environment

Experience Preferred:

  • PMI, PMP, Certified Scrum Practioner, Certified Scrum Master,
  • Background in data analytics
